About Luma
Luma's mission is to build multimodal AI to expand human imagination and capabilities. We believe that multimodality is critical for intelligence. To go beyond language models and build more aware, capable and useful systems, the next step function change will come from vision. So we are working on training and scaling up multimodal foundation models for systems that can see and understand, show and explain, and eventually interact with our world to effect change.

Where You Come In
This is a rare opportunity to define the visual language of the next creative frontier. As our Senior Video Editor, you will partner directly with leadership to craft the cinematic launch assets that introduce Luma's groundbreaking multimodal AI models to millions of creators worldwide. You will sit at the absolute intersection of cutting-edge technology and high-fidelity visual craft, turning raw model capabilities into magical, culture-defining stories that carry the weight and quality of an IMAX-style cinema trailer.

What You'll Do

This is a 0-to-1 opportunity to shape our brand's creative identity from scratch. In this role, you will:

  • Own the end-to-end video editing, pacing, and narrative structure for Luma's major product launch assets and brand campaigns.
  • Build sound design in tandem with the edit, creating a cohesive and immersive audio-visual experience from the first cut.
  • Translate raw, cutting-edge model outputs and product features into cohesive, visually stunning, and emotionally resonant narratives.
  • Collaborate closely with Brett Wietecha, a senior motion designer, and researchers to define the aesthetic direction and visual identity of our public-facing brand.
  • Incorporate advanced motion graphics, typography, and sound design to elevate every asset to a world-class standard of craft.
  • Iterate rapidly in a high-velocity, high-feedback environment, moving from rough concepts to polished, final-render assets under tight launch timelines (e.g., 2.5 weeks for a major asset).
  • Establish scalable creative workflows and asset pipelines to support a continuous stream of high-impact product announcements.

Who You Are
  • 3-5+ years of professional video editing and motion design experience, ideally within creative ad agencies, boutique studios, or cutting-edge brand teams.
  • A proven "builder" with a stunning, hands-on portfolio that demonstrates a highly opinionated aesthetic taste, exceptional cinematic pacing, and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Expert proficiency in industry-standard creative tools, specifically After Effects and DaVinci Resolve.
  • A master of sound design, with a portfolio that proves you can build a rich, narrative-driven soundscape from the ground up.
  • High agency and the ability to operate with extreme autonomy, taking complete ownership of projects from initial concept to final delivery.
  • Thrive in a high-feedback environment, viewing direct and blunt critique as a tool for creative excellence and separating personal attachment from the work.
  • A genuine passion for the creative potential of AI and a deep alignment with Luma's mission to expand human imagination.

What Sets You Apart (Bonus Points)
  • Experience working with generative AI tools (e.g., Dream Machine, Runway, Midjourney) in professional creative workflows.
  • Strong skills in 3D motion design or tools like Cinema4D or Blender.
  • A public-facing presence or active participation in online design, video editing, or motion graphics communities.
  • Experience cutting high-profile, brand-defining advertisements or cinematic trailers for top-tier creative agencies or studios.
Compensation
The base pay range for this role is $166,500 – $200,000 per year.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
