DESIGNWhat We Do

Put your design skills to work at a cutting-edge company that challenges the norm. From character and level design to competitive gameplay and system design, help shape the future of interactive entertainment at Epic.

What You'll Do

As a Senior UX Designer on the Unreal Creator Tools team, you’ll help shape the future of 3D creation by driving visual, interaction, and workflow design across our suite of tools. Collaborating with artists, designers, researchers, and engineers, you’ll define the next generation of creative tools for games, film, architectural visualization, product design, and more. Through research, prototyping, and iteration, you’ll craft intuitive interfaces, optimize workflows, and contribute to building the creative tools of tomorrow.

In this role, you will

  • Design layouts, interaction patterns, and visual styles for software user interfaces
  • Produce materials to illustrate your concepts, including personas, storyboards, sketches, wireframes, mockups, and interactive prototypes
  • Iterate on ideas and make them real in collaboration with designers, engineers, product managers, and other subject matter experts
  • Review existing UI for new and legacy features to identify and solve design problems
  • Help establish guidelines and standards for visual language within and across product lines
  • Design and develop new mechanisms and visual conventions that make product features easier to discover, use, and love
  • Seek out and incorporate user feedback through interviews, testing, and other research

What we're looking for

  • 4+ years of UX design experience focused on creative tools or a related field
  • Proficiency with 2D and 3D creative tools such as Blender, Autodesk Maya, 3ds Max, Cinema 4D, Unreal Engine, and similar software
  • Experience with game engines is strongly preferred
  • Ability to ingest a complex feature concept idea and to simplify it to a discoverable and intuitive user experience
  • Proficiency with industry standard prototyping tools (Figma, Sketch, Creative Cloud)
  • Exceptional visual design skills with an eye for detail
  • Autonomy and the ability to help drive a design from concept to delivery
  • Team spirit, strong communication and collaboration skills
  • A passion to make tools and experiences that empower other creatives to realize their creative vision
  • Technical curiosity and adaptability

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
