JOB TITLE:    Sr. User Experience Designer (Job Code: PM0901)

JOB DETAILS:   

Part of the hardware UX team, responsible for leading UX for physical products and experiences in the consumer category and involve UX leadership within hardware programs as well as experience advancements across the Sonos platform. Sit right at the intersection of hardware and software and is highly collaborative and connected in nature. In addition to critical partnerships in hardware design and engineering, partner closely with UX teams that are focused on configuration, content, control, and foundational technology experiences across the Sonos platform. Operate as the main point of contact for all things UX in hardware programs that can run for 2 years or longer, driving UX from the earliest incubation phase through design, development, product launch and beyond. Develop and maintain deep subject matter expertise in specific areas of experience, and with creative and technical partners, drive ideas, vision, and execution for hardware products and experiences in service of the roadmap and company strategy. Lead UX for the control surfaces on hardware, partnering with industrial design in the implementation of UI into the product’s physical form. Partner across UX teams in ensuring delivery of an easy and delightful comprehensive experience, including setup, onboarding, content, and control. Work closely with cross-functional teams to design, test, refine and document easy and compelling user experiences, ensuring alignment with the overall Sonos experience principles. Provide detailed design specifications for new product experiences and iterative improvements to the Sonos platform, ensuring that specifications are detailed without becoming overly complicated. Leverage and refine the overall Sonos UX design landscape, using existing toolsets and design libraries, while continually contributing to improving how we work. Engage with the tools needed to get the job done, including Figma, Framer, JIRA, Confluence, and more. Directly involved in prototyping, testing and iterating on product

experiences, ensuring achievement of experience goals with confidence and clarity. Collaborate effectively over distance, understanding and adapting to what it takes for a distributed team to be aligned and effective.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:    

Bachelor’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in Electronic Engineering, Industrial Design, User Experience Design, HCI, or related field plus 4 years of experience in the offered position or related position.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must possess expertise/knowledge sufficient to adequately perform the duties of the job being offered. Expertise/knowledge may be gained through employment experience or education. Such expertise/knowledge cannot be "quantified" by "time". Required expertise/knowledge includes:

  • Experience designing user experience and user interface that consist of touch and no-touch LCD displays, LEDs, capacitive touch controls, mechanical buttons, and product switches that can be connected to the internet and are controlled remotely with mobile applications.
  • Experience serving as UX lead for consumer electronics hardware products that have complex integration of analog and digital electronics plus embedded software, and operate as the main point of contact for all the UX needs in hardware programs that can run for 2 years or longer.
  • Experience with iterative design process consisting of user research, design exploration, ideation, prototyping and usability testing.
  • Experience partnering across the teams of electronics hardware, industrial design, embedded software, mobile applications software including iOS and Android to deliver comprehensive experience, including setup, onboarding and control of the hardware products.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams of industrial designers, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, software developers and product verification and validation engineers to design, test, refine and document user experiences.
  • Experience with detailed design specifications using tools: Confluence, Figma, and Framer for the features of hardware user interface, connectivity and system control for new electronics hardware and software product experiences, ensuring that specifications are detailed and are not overly complicated.
  • Experience with Figma, Framer, JIRA, Confluence, Apple Keynote, Apple Numbers and the Google Document suite.
  • Experience with user centered design methodology with focus on cognitive response as well as behavioral response of the users, to identify, articulate and frame problems faced by at least 100,000 new customers every year.

OTHER:  Salary: $173,368 per year.
