Great products deserve great documentation, and that’s where you come in. We’re looking for a Senior Technical Writer who can bring clarity, creativity, and technical depth to our content.

You’ll partner with Product, UX, Engineering, and customer-facing teams to turn complex ideas into documentation that makes life easier for our users. You’ll get lots of variety in this role and will be creating external and internal docs, UI text, and API docs. You’ll take the lead on big projects, shape how our docs are structured, and push our standards forward.

If you love exploring new tech, asking the right questions, and aren’t afraid to dive into code, you’ll fit right in.

We want someone who is:

  • Curious: You’re not afraid to ask questions. You feel a strong need to understand the full context and technical concepts behind what you’re working on.
  • Technical: You love technology and have a high technical aptitude. You can easily understand (and aren’t intimidated by) complex systems.
  • Proactive: You take ownership of your assigned product area. You take the initiative to keep up to date with what we’re building and follow up when necessary to unblock yourself and move work forward.
  • Passionate: You’re fully engaged with your assigned product area. You take a lot of pride in your work and strive for continuous improvements.
  • Results-Oriented: You’re driven by KPIs. You understand the business problems that you’re trying to solve with your documentation and are obsessed with meeting customer needs.
  • Empathetic: You advocate for users. You have a deep understanding of their needs and align your approach accordingly.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Author a wide range of internal- and external-facing technical documentation, including end-user documentation, internal product documentation, architecture diagrams, UI text, and API references.
  • Define the vision for documentation architecture, structure, and content, ensuring alignment with customer needs and documentation standards.
  • Proactively identify documentation gaps and develop content plans to address them.
  • Edit and review technical documentation, including peer reviews of other writers’ work.
  • Provide input and editorial support for UI copy.
  • Create tutorials to guide users.
  • Lead team initiatives, such as evolving documentation standards and best practices, and innovating on approaches like documentation as code.

Here’s what you need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English or similar. A Technical Writing certificate or other technical certificates or diplomas are a significant asset.
  • 5+ years of experience writing highly technical documentation.
  • Proven experience writing developer-focused content, including API references, conceptual guides, and tutorials.
  • Proficiency with authoring tools (e.g., MadCap Flare) and/or DITA for structured documentation.
  • Ability to quickly grasp complex technical concepts, with a strong interest in exploring innovative documentation solutions.
  • Experience creating API documentation using tools such as Stoplight or ReadMe.
  • Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript is an asset.

Why You’ll Love Working Here:

  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision plans for you and your dependents
  • Paid time off, health days, and personal obligation days plus flexible work schedules
  • Competitive retirement matching plans
  • Equity packages
  • Generous parental leave available to birthing, non-birthing, and adoptive parents
  • Annual well-being allowance plus fitness discounts and group wellness activities

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
