Blackline Safety is hiring a Senior Technical Writer—someone who has mastery of technical writing, experience in understanding the differing needs of multiple audiences, and the ability to adapt their writing and content accordingly. The ideal candidate has a keen eye for detail, enjoys working closely with other team members, and has the desire to tackle everything from writing and updating release notes to building out hardware and software manuals from scratch.
The successful candidate will be joining our expanding Technical Communications team, whose goal is to collaborate not only with internal product teams, but also with our customer-facing teams, ensuring the content we create directly enhances the customer experience. Responsibilities:
- Gather information from cross-functional teams including Product Management, Product
- Marketing, Engineering, UX, and Quality Assurance to write, edit, update, and publish
- Technical User Manuals, Getting Started Guides, articles, notifications, and reference materials.
- Work with technical teams to write, edit, update, and publish product release notes and incident summaries.
- Work with customer-facing teams (e.g., Technical Support, Client Success, and Implementations) to produce content that enhances the customer experience.
- Synthesize multiple inputs and feedback from stakeholders into concise, cohesive content.
- Ensure that content is technically aligned and has a consistent voice.
- Edit the work of other writers.
- Create and edit product support videos using Camtasia.
- Develop visual assets or graphics to support technical documentation (nice to have).
- Support localization processes to ensure content is accurate and effective across multiple languages.
- Contribute to whitepapers, technical articles, and other thought leadership content.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of the Technical Communication team’s processes and procedures, including the Style Guide, Glossary and templates.
Skills/Qualifications:
To be considered for this position, you should have:
- A diploma or degree in related field (technical writing, information design, English, communications, etc.) or directly related experience.
- 7+ years' experience as a Technical Writer.
- Experience writing and editing technical content for different audiences, both technical and non-technical.
- Experience with complex technical documentation and DITA CCMS platforms (Heretto experience is a bonus).
- Experience editing and providing feedback to other writers and SMEs.
- Experience with Camtasia and/or video and graphics creation.
- Experience with content localization.
- Experience researching and writing whitepapers, technical articles, or thought leadership content.
- Experience with Google Analytics and Power BI are an asset.
- Excellent organizational skills and high attention to detail.
- Great critical thinking and problem-solving skills with an ability to communicate complex ideas in clear, concise ways. · Advanced understanding of templates, styles, and formatting.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a high-growth, fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.
- Experience working at a medium to large-sized business and with cross-functional teams.
