Vast is looking for a Senior Technical Writer, reporting to the VP, Haven-2 Engineering, to lead our technical writing efforts as part of the Haven-2 design for the NASA Commercial LEO Destinations (CLD) proposal.

This will be a full-time, exempt position located in our Long Beach location. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Communicate complex technical information clearly, concisely and accurately
  • Work directly with engineering teams to understand, distill, and articulate complex technical information to customers 
  • Support Sales and Business Development proposal efforts by acting as single point of contact for compiling technical information and documentation
  • Format, proofread, and copy edit customer facing technical documentation including proposals, Interface Control Documents, and technical specifications  
  • Drive internal schedules and manage internal stakeholders to ensure documentation deliverable timelines are met
  • Create processes and tools to streamline documentation efforts to reduce effort required for incremental documentation requests

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering, business, or writing discipline
  • 5+ years of experience in technical writing or other related job functions 

Preferred Skills & Experience:

  • Previous space and/or aerospace experience and understanding of space-related technical standards
  • Experience working with government customers including NASA, ESA, Department of Defense, or other large government organizations 
  • Ability to work through ambiguous requirements and deliver successful results in a fast-paced environment with time-sensitive deadlines 
  • Experience creating content for technical audiences either in a pre-sales (proposal) or post-sales capacity (customer or public documentation)
  • Previous experience being directly involved in proposal writing or supporting pre-sales efforts from a technical writing perspective 

Additional Requirements:

  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time
  • Willingness to work evenings and/or weekends to support critical mission milestones


Salary Ranges:

  • Senior Technical Writer: $115,000 - $145,000
  • Staff Technical Writer: $140,000 - $176,000

Base salary will vary depending on job-related knowledge, education, skills, experience, business needs, and market demand. Salary is just one component of our comprehensive compensation package. The person hired will have access to information and items subject to U.S. export controls, and therefore, must either be a “U.S. person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.62 or otherwise eligible for deemed export licensing.
