Role

We are looking for a Senior Technical Trainer to join our Zscaler Cyber Academy. This is a hybrid role based in San Jose, CA, reporting to the AMS Delivery Leader in the Zscaler Cyber Academy (Product) department. A Senior Technical Trainer is responsible for designing, developing, and delivering advanced educational programs that empower customers, partners, and internal teams to master complex technologies. By bridging critical knowledge gaps and elevating overall technical proficiency, this role directly drives product adoption, enhances user success, and accelerates organizational growth.

What you’ll do (Role Expectations)

  • Conduct engaging, high-level technical training sessions for customers, partners, and internal employees across various formats, including instructor-led (ILT), virtual (VILT), and hands-on workshops
  • Design, develop, and continuously update comprehensive training materials, lab exercises, and certification exams to ensure they reflect the latest product features and industry best practices
  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) to mentor and onboard junior trainers, while also evaluating peer performance to maintain high instructional standards across the team
  • Partner closely with Product Management, Engineering, and Support teams to translate complex technical specifications into easily digestible learning content and stay ahead of upcoming product releases
  • Measure and analyze training effectiveness through student feedback, assessments, and key performance metrics to identify knowledge gaps and continuously improve the curriculum

Who You Are (Success Profile)

  • Masterful Translator. You have the superpower of bridging the gap between the engineers who built the product and the users trying to understand it by translating dense architecture into digestible learning experiences.
  • Agile and Adaptable. You don't freeze when scripts fail or lab environments crash; instead, you pivot seamlessly and turn technical hurdles into live troubleshooting lessons for your students.
  • Champion of Simplicity. You are a precise communicator who distills complex, overwhelming concepts into simple, actionable steps that ensure your audience is confident and capable.
  • Cross-Functional Catalyst. You possess the interpersonal skills to build high-trust relationships with busy Subject Matter Experts and Engineers to extract the knowledge needed to stay ahead of the product roadmap.
  • Insatiably Curious. You have a proactive drive to explore new features and break things in the lab to figure out how they work before you are ever asked to teach them.

What We’re Looking for (Minimum Qualifications)

  • 5+ years of experience in technical training, technical enablement, sales engineering, technical support, or a closely related customer-facing technical role within SaaS, cloud computing, networking, or cybersecurity
  • Demonstrated track record of independently delivering highly technical instructor-led training (ILT) and virtual instructor-led training (VILT) to diverse external and internal audiences
  • Hands-on experience designing, building, and maintaining technical courseware, including presentation decks, student guides, and interactive, hands-on lab environments
  • Strong foundational knowledge of enterprise technologies, including networking protocols, cloud architectures, or security frameworks, with the ability to rapidly master new software products
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to command a room and confidently translate dense engineering concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

What Will Make You Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Established credibility and deep domain expertise in the Cloud Computing, Cybersecurity, Networking, or SaaS industries
  • Technical proficiency in writing scripts to automate the spin-up and spin-down of virtual student lab environments
  • Experience building high-end asynchronous learning content, including video production and gamification elements

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
