About This Role:

A lot of technical recruiting jobs at startups are a sprint: a big hiring push, a pile of reqs, then a hiring freeze and a reorg. This isn't that. Our engineering hiring is steady and it's going to stay that way, so we want someone who'd rather go deep with a handful of engineering teams than churn through whatever's on fire this week. The tradeoff: you'll be expected to actually understand what you're hiring for and how your work impacts the business overall. You'll be a Talent Business Partner to the LiveKit team.

You'll thrive as a Senior Technical Recruiter if you:

  • are known as the go-to person for tackling tough problems

  • are focused on polish, detail and quality

  • are a fast learner, frequently picking up new tips, tricks, and skills

The best way to impress us is with thoughtful ways you'd implement AI in the recruiting process 😊

What You'll Do
  • Own 8-10 engineering and technical searches end to end, from kickoff to signed offer

  • Partner with engineering hiring managers on what the role really needs, and push back when the requirements don't match the market

  • Source hard: find the infra, backend, SDK, and AI engineers who aren't looking, and give them a reason to talk to us

  • Understand what candidates are motivated by and create a strategy to get them there

  • Build pipelines for the roles we hire for again and again, so new reqs don't start from zero

  • Run an honest, authentic and clear process emphasizing candidate experience that people talk about, even the ones we don't hire

  • Help build the systems the Talent team runs on, from sourcing playbooks to interview kits

Who You Are
  • 5+ years of full-cycle technical recruiting, mostly in-house

  • You've owned senior and staff-level engineering searches and closed them

  • You can hold a real conversation with an engineer about their work

  • You source proactively and know how to build and sustain a strong bench.

  • You've recruited for infrastructure, developer tools, open source, or AI companies

  • You've built or rebuilt a recruiting process from scratch

  • You know how to win top talent, even when competing against offers from big tech.

Nice to Have
  • You've used Ashby and Gem (or have strong opinions about the tools you did use)

  • Are Located in San Francisco

  • Have a degree or certificate in computer science

  • Have experience with executive recruiting

Our Commitment to You
  • An opportunity to build something truly impactful to the world

  • Competitive salary and equity package

  • Health, dental, and vision benefits

  • Flexible vacation policy

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
