Note to applicants: This is a full-time, onsite position working out of our HQ in Valencia, CA.

Who We Are:

Sunco is a leading American lighting and electrical eCommerce retailer proudly serving electrical contractors, builders, and property owners. Based in sunny Valencia, CA, we’re guided by values of customer-centricity, expertise, grit, and agility. Our vision is to simplify the purchase-to-install journey through a seamless, one-stop experience built on selection, service, speed, and savings. When our customers win, we win. By joining Sunco, you’re joining a company committed to continuous progress and improving efficiency across every project we support.

Who You Are:

  1. Smart – strong reasoning and critical thinking
  1. Passionate – your work is your sport of choice
  1. Optimistic – self-explanatory
  1. Tenacious – extraordinary impact requires extraordinary grit and work ethic
  1. Adaptable – the world evolves at breakneck speed. You evolve faster.
  1. Kind – but that doesn't mean you’re a pushover. Kindness lets you make hard decisions.

About the Role:

We’re hiring a senior technical product leader to own Sunco’s lighting and electrical supply portfolio end-to-end. This role will manage and scale a team of Product Managers and Project/Program Managers. This role is accountable for both what we build (product strategy, requirements, customer value) and how we build it (NPI execution, manufacturing alignment, supplier partnerships, iteration systems).

You’ll lead lighting products from concept through launch and into high-velocity iteration. You’ll drive gains in reliability, thermal performance, manufacturability, cost-downs, and customer outcomes. You’ll operate as a cross-team leader, because you understand that a single team can go fast, but a team of teams can go far.

You'll partner closely with data, software engineering, hardware engineering, quality, manufacturing, supply chain, sales/marketing, CS and more. You're already actively exploring how AI + data is reshaping manufacturing and hardware product development.

What You’ll Do:

  • Own lighting products end-to-end: Lead NPI from requirements → prototypes → validation/compliance → pilot → ramp → launch → post-launch iteration.
  • Lead and develop the PM/Program team: Manage Product Managers and Project/Program Managers; set operating cadence, priorities, and execution standards; coach decision-making and communication quality.
  • Manage full product lifecycle: Drive roadmap planning from concept to end-of-life; continuously assess market conditions and customer needs; lead feature additions, refreshes, and portfolio decisions.
  • Drive iteration at scale: Improve reliability, thermal performance, manufacturability, packaging, margin, returns/defects, yield, lead time, and supplier/CM changes.
  • Serve as primary operations point of contact: Understand factory operations and manufacturing constraints to prevent misalignment, reduce waste, and protect Sunco’s time and resources.
  • Lead supplier and vendor relationships: Ensure factories and partners prioritize Sunco—supporting faster development, smoother production, better terms, and improved pricing.
  • Run cross-functional decision systems: Facilitate phase gates, executive updates, and high-quality decisions across product, engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, sales/marketing, and analytics.
  • Operate with a data-driven mindset: Gather and synthesize quantitative + qualitative inputs; build decision narratives that align stakeholders and enable fast, confident bets.
  • Apply AI to accelerate work: Identify and implement practical AI-enabled improvements in requirements, documentation, issue triage, test planning, and manufacturing/quality insights.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Lighting industry background: Strong understanding of lighting customers, trends, channels, and technology progression.
  • Technical hardware depth: High-level understanding of lighting technology and innovation, with hands-on experience in electrical, mechanical, and/or electromechanical systems.
  • Engineering training strongly preferred: EE degree/training or equivalent technical hardware product leadership background.
  • 7+ years shipping hardware products from concept to scale (lighting/electrical preferred) with meaningful hands-on engineering involvement.
  • 3+ years in technical hardware product management and/or hardware engineering leadership, including leading teams and driving cross-functional outcomes.
  • Technical fluency in lighting hardware: LED systems, drivers/power, chips, dimming behavior, thermal/reliability, manufacturability, and core EE principles.
  • Manufacturing + supplier/ODM/CM experience: RFQ, sampling, pilots, production support, and navigating factory operations effectively.
  • Market Analysis: Exceptional understanding of demographics and customer needs. Has the ability to root cause customer pain points and translate that into product features and offerings.
  • Communication and influence: Exceptional written and verbal communication; ability to align and drive outcomes across teams (including senior stakeholders) without direct authority.
  • Data-first decision making: Comfortable using quantitative and qualitative inputs to make and defend product decisions at speed.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
