We have begun early development on a new, unannounced VR title, and are looking for an experienced Senior Technical Designer to join and become an important member of our technical design team. If you love to solve challenging design problems through the clever and clean application of a well-scripted set of functions, then we want to hear from you. In this role, you’d be part of the core team defining the design of features and determining the vision for the game from an early start. You will be a mentor and help to establish best practices and scripting conventions that other designers will look up to. You’ll also be expected to own, design and implement significant portions of our gameplay features.
Responsibilities
- Be an important senior member of the technical design team.
- Help to further establish and help maintain scripting standards in Unreal’s Blueprint scripting language.
- Review, evaluate and critique other designers’ implementations.
- Document blueprint best practices for the design team, including proper commenting and structural design.
- Own, implement, and iterate on technically challenging features and content for an exciting new game.
- Ensure that gameplay features are not compromised by technical limitations and remain performant.
- Mentor and level up other team members technical knowhow.
- Be a force multiplier!
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience in technically focused design roles.
- Deep experience with Unreal Engine’s Blueprint scripting language and overall feature-sets.
- Ability to architect features using object-oriented principles.
- Great communication skills and team-oriented approach to technical design, no one works in vacuum.
- Experience with writing and appreciation of game design documents.
- Ability to work closely with the other departments and often work directly with the engineering team.
- Demonstrated experience mentoring, teaching, or otherwise communicating technical design concepts.
- Contributed to at least one title from pre-production to launch.

- Understanding of Unreal’s Gameplay Ability System (GAS)
The annual salary range for this position in Los Angeles is $110,000 – $140,000. The salary offered may vary based on the candidate’s location, qualifications, experience and relevant expertise, among other factors. The range indicated is for base salary only and does not reflect the total compensation package, including bonus, benefits, etc.
