At Netflix, our mission is to entertain the world. Together, we are writing the next episode - pushing the boundaries of storytelling, global fandom and making the unimaginable a reality. We are a dream team obsessed with the uncomfortable excitement of discovering what happens when you merge creativity, intuition and cutting-edge technology. Come be a part of what’s next.

We are Night School, A Netflix Games Studio. We're a group of developers, artists, and storytellers who make games full of wonder, danger, and humor. Everyone at our studio, whether an industry vet or a new voice, impacts each game through collaborative feedback, mutual respect, and creative empowerment. If you want to make games that leave a meaningful impact on players: we want to hear from you.

We're looking for new teammates who deeply care about the work they do, the stories they tell, and the people they create with. As part of the Netflix team, we strive to hire the best and value integrity, excellence, respect, inclusion, and collaboration.

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Lead 3D Character Artist to join our nimble, creative game development team within Netflix Games Studio. In this role, you will take ownership of the character art pipeline from concept through delivery — shaping the look, quality, and technical execution of characters that define our games and delight global players. You’ll collaborate closely with art, design, and engineering to drive consistent artistic excellence and push creative boundaries.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute high-quality 3D character art from early prototypes through final in-engine implementation.

  • Define and maintain artistic standards for character topology, anatomy, texturing, shading, and presentation.

  • Partner with art directors, designers, and engineers to ensure seamless integration of characters into gameplay.

  • Mentor and assist other artists; share best practices and establish efficient workflows.

  • Help build and optimize character pipelines, tools, and documentation to support scalable production.

  • Maintain consistent visual quality across all character assets and collaborate on style guides.

  • Troubleshoot technical and artistic challenges as they arise during development.

Required Experience & Skills

  • Proven track record as a 3D character artist with shipped titles (AAA, indie, or mobile).

  • Strong portfolio demonstrating expertise in 3D character modeling, texturing, and look development.

  • Proficiency in industry standard tools such as Maya, ZBrush, Substance Painter, or equivalent.

  • Solid understanding of character anatomy, materials, UV workflows, and game-ready asset creation.

  • Experience in tech art, successfully bridging the gap between Art & Engineering.

  • Strong experience integrating assets into engine (primarily Unreal).

  • Excellent visual storytelling skills and a keen eye for detail.

  • Effective communication and collaboration skills within multidisciplinary teams.

Nice-to-Have

  • Pitch experience

  • Prior leadership or mentorship experience in an art production environment.

  • Familiarity with performance optimization for real-time applications.

  • Experience with advanced character features like facial rigs, hair systems, or procedural workflows.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
