The ideal candidate is equally comfortable engaging with business stakeholders, architects, developers, compliance teams, and operations teams to ensure solutions are clearly defined, fully understood, and ready for implementation.

System Analysis & Documentation

  • Perform deep-dive analysis of existing enterprise applications to understand current-state functionality, integrations, data flows, and technical constraints.
  • Analyze system behavior to identify gaps, enhancement opportunities, and process improvements.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of application functionality and business processes.

Technical Specification Writing

  • Create detailed Functional Requirements Documents (FRDs), Feature Specifications, User Stories, and Acceptance Criteria.
  • Develop requirements using structured formats such as GIVEN / WHEN / THEN (BDD) methodologies where appropriate.
  • Ensure requirements are complete, testable, traceable, and unambiguous before development begins.

Process & Data Modeling

  • Create process flows, decision trees, state diagrams, and system interaction diagrams using tools such as Mermaid.js, Visio, Miro, or similar platforms.
  • Document end-to-end business processes and system interactions.
  • Model data entities, relationships, and mappings across integrated systems.

API & Integration Analysis

  • Collaborate with architects and technical leads to document APIs, integration points, data contracts, and interface requirements.
  • Analyze JSON payloads, API responses, and data structures to support solution design and implementation.
  • Document data transformation and mapping requirements between systems.

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Serve as the liaison between business stakeholders and technical teams.
  • Facilitate requirement reviews, walkthroughs, and clarification sessions.
  • Resolve requirement ambiguities, conflicts, and gaps through stakeholder engagement.

Agile Delivery Support

  • Support backlog refinement and sprint planning activities by ensuring requirements are adequately documented and understood.
  • Assist Product Owners and development teams with requirement clarification throughout delivery.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies to provide business and functional context.

Quality & Validation

  • Define acceptance criteria and support User Acceptance Testing (UAT).
  • Validate delivered solutions against documented requirements.
  • Proactively identify edge cases, exception scenarios, and error-handling requirements.

Experience / Knowledge Required Experience

  • 5–10+ years of experience as a Technical Business Analyst, Systems Analyst, or Business Systems Analyst in software engineering environments.
  • Financial Services or Banking experience strongly preferred.
  • Proven experience working on complex enterprise applications and system integrations.

Technical Acumen

  • Strong understanding of APIs, REST services, JSON payloads, and integration patterns.
  • Working knowledge of relational databases, SQL queries, and data mapping concepts.
  • Ability to analyze technical artifacts and communicate findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Strong requirements elicitation, analysis, documentation, and validation skills.
  • Experience creating functional specifications, user stories, process flows, and acceptance criteria.
  • Ability to identify business impacts, dependencies, and risks.

Agile Experience

  • Experience working within Agile and Scrum delivery environments.
  • Proficiency with Jira, Confluence, Azure DevOps, or similar tools.
  • Understanding of backlog management and refinement processes without being the owner of product prioritization.

Communication & Documentation

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong facilitation and stakeholder management capabilities.
  • Ability to translate business language into technical requirements and technical concepts into business language.

Bonus Qualifications (Strong Pluses)

  • Experience in Wealth Management, Digital Banking, or Financial Technology platforms.
  • Familiarity with Markdown documentation standards.
  • Experience with Mermaid.js, Miro, Visio, or other diagramming tools.
  • Knowledge of BDD (Behavior-Driven Development) methodologies.
  • Experience establishing and enforcing Definition of Ready (DoR) standards.
  • Experience performing application audits, reverse engineering business logic, and documenting legacy systems with limited existing documentation

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
