Seeking a Senior Taxonomy Analyst to work with multiple teams across System1. Will need to understand the value of taxonomy work in building solutions and can advocate this value to your business stakeholders. Need to have experience developing multilingual global taxonomies and classification systems and are excited to build the foundation for System1’s understanding and experience with building a knowledge graph and utilizing AI-driven machine learning models where appropriate.
Senior Taxonomy Analyst
- Create and execute taxonomy roadmaps.
- Develop classification systems, taxonomies, thesauri, and controlled vocabularies with an emphasis on sustainability, scalability and interoperability.
- Identify taxonomy requirements through research, System1’s existing systems, input from stakeholders and external sources.
- Identify taxonomy KPIs, measure taxonomy effectiveness and create taxonomy performance reporting.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including analytics, engineers, content, contributors and publishing.
- Proficient in facet analysis, gap analysis, thesaurus implementations, validation logic, ANSI Z.39 standards.
- Prioritize taxonomy work according to business needs and bolstered by data driven analysis of taxonomy structures
- Educate stakeholders on the business impact and ROI of taxonomy work and provide ongoing support with taxonomy governance and implementation frameworks.
- Create and deliver impactful presentations and taxonomy educational sessions.
- Contribute to improving search & keyword accuracy, conduct keyword research and consult on taxonomy impact across multiple business lines.
- This is a hands-on senior taxonomy role.

If you’re interested in this role, you’ll need these skills or experiences:
- 5+ years experience as a working taxonomist.
- Master’s Degree in Information Management, Library and Information Science (ALA-accredited MLS/MLIS, MSIM, MSIS), or equivalent work experience.
- Experience with multilingual taxonomy creation and management, metadata standards, subject classification, and knowledge organization.
- Strong skills in gathering taxonomy efficiency requirements, including user interviews, heuristic reviews, facet analysis, coverage models and taxonomy tree testing.
- Exceptional attention to detail and excellent ability to communicate taxonomy value to the business in technical and non-technical language.
- Knowledge of taxonomy and ontology standards, protocols, and schemas (SKOS, OWL, RDF, SPARQL, JSON-LD, Schema.org, DBPedia.)
- Experience with taxonomy and ontology semantic middleware like PoolParty, TopQuadrant EDG, or similar software.
- Proficiency with Excel and PostGres.
- Passionate about professional growth in the areas of Knowledge Graphs and data modeling.
- Project Management fundamentals are preferred.

The U.S. base salary range for this full-time position is $115,000 - $172,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
