What You'll Do

In this role, you will:

  • Own the analysis and documentation of uncertain tax positions and valuation allowance assessments.
  • Serve as the primary tax contact for external auditors during quarterly reviews and the annual audit, and support SEC reporting requirements and related disclosure review.

  • Research, analyze, and model the provision effects of legislative and accounting changes, including scenario analysis.
  • Evaluate and account for the provision impacts of key book-tax differences, including stock-based compensation, R&D capitalization, FDDEI, NCTI, lease accounting, and GAAP-to-statutory adjustments.
  • Lead the provision analysis for transactions including mergers, acquisitions, reorganizations, financing arrangements, and business initiatives, preparing calculations, opening balance sheets, and technical memoranda documenting related tax effects and disclosure considerations.
  • Identify and implement improvements to the global tax reporting processes, including AI optimization, tax system enhancements, automation, and data governance.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, Tax, or a related technical field.
  • Eight or more years of experience in public accounting or industry with a focus on ASC 740 reporting for a multinational public company.
  • CPA license strongly preferred.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of accounting principles, ASC 740, and U.S. federal and state income tax concepts.
  • Working knowledge of accounting for international tax concepts, including foreign current and deferred taxes, statutory-to-U.S. GAAP differences, foreign tax credits, and Pillar Two.
  • Experience with SOX controls over income taxes and working directly with external auditors in a public company environment.
  • Experience reviewing provision work prepared by others, including co-sourced or outsourced providers.
  • Experience improving tax reporting processes, implementing automation, or supporting tax technology transformations.
  • Experience with tax provision software, preferably Oracle Tax Reporting Cloud Service (“TRCS”) or a comparable platform such as OneSource.
  • Proficient tax research, analytical, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical positions and provision results clearly to Tax and Finance leadership, external auditors, and other non-tax stakeholders.
  • Ability to evaluate new facts or tax law changes and develop practical solutions.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
