The role & impact

As a Senior Tax Consultant, you will play a vital part in the global Finance Team, ensuring Xero’s tax obligations are met with precision. You will take ownership of New Zealand tax compliance, including fringe benefits tax and income tax reporting, while providing beautiful tax services that support the wider group’s mission to help small businesses thrive.

Your expertise will extend beyond compliance as you become a trusted advisor, offering timely tax advice and collaborating across the business to navigate complex tax landscapes. By mastering tax effect accounting and contributing to global projects, you will help build a stronger, data-driven economy.

The team & how they connect

You will join a global shared service team responsible for all tax matters across the Xero Group, from transfer pricing to expatriate tax. This collaborative group works closely with the wider Finance Team in ANZ and international regions to deliver seamless tax functions and support global operations.

The team is currently working on / Initially, you will focus on

  • Delivering comprehensive tax compliance and fringe benefits tax reporting for New Zealand based entities.

  • Preparing month end tax effect accounting calculations and supporting financial reporting requirements.

  • Supporting the Transfer Pricing Team to ensure international compliance matters are accurately reflected in filings.

  • Embracing AI tools and innovative processes to improve the delivery of tax services.

Here are some of the things we are looking for

  • You bring a strong background in tax compliance, including experience with tax accounting and New Zealand tax legislation.

  • Your skillset includes a deep understanding of tax effect accounting and the ability to manage complex reporting for financial purposes.

  • You have a natural curiosity for problem solving and enjoy finding efficient ways to challenge the status quo.

  • Experience with tax matters outside of New Zealand, such as South African or APAC jurisdictions, would be a great asset.

  • You are comfortable using or learning AI tools like Gemini or Glean to enhance your daily workflows.

  • A professional qualification such as CA, CPA, or a legal background is what you will use to provide expert advice.
