  • Monitor regulatory developments and ensure compliance with evolving tax laws; conduct in-depth research on complex issues, particularly within renewable energy (e.g., ITC, PTC, and accelerated depreciation);
  • Support indirect tax functions, including nexus analysis, taxability determinations for materials and labor, and exemption certificate management;
  • Partner cross-functionally with Legal, Accounting, Procurement, Development, Asset Management, and Project Finance teams to ensure proper tax treatment, validate tax assumptions in financial models, and align tax strategy with business operations;
  • Maintain audit-ready documentation, support tax audits, assist with tax provision calculations and financial reporting disclosures, and communicate tax implications to stakeholders at all levels;
  • Communicate tax implications and recommendations to stakeholders at all levels of the organization;
  • Other duties as required or assigned.

Key Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field;
  • CPA license required (or significant progress toward completion);
  • 3-5 years of professional tax experience, including corporate, partnership and indirect taxation;
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state tax regulations, including income tax and sales & use tax;
  • Excellent technical tax research and analytical skills;

  • Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of renewable energy tax incentives (ITC, PTC, MACRS, bonus depreciation);
  • Experience with project finance and complex structures (e.g., partnerships, MLPs, tax equity);
  • Background in multi-state taxation and nexus analysis.

Compensation and Location:

Salary: A base salary commensurate with experience;
Bonus: An annual bonus will be awarded based on individual performance and the overall success of the business;
Benefits: Aypa offers an attractive benefits package with excellent health care/dental/vision, 401k matching, unlimited vacation, paid parental leave, and other health/wellness benefits;

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
