IREN is a leading AI Cloud Service Provider, delivering large-scale GPU clusters for AI training and inference. IREN’s vertically integrated platform is underpinned by its expansive portfolio of grid-connected land and data centers in renewable-rich regions across the U.S. and Canada.
The Senior Supplier Quality Engineer, Optics, ASIC, and Network Fabric owns supplier quality for the networking silicon and interconnect hardware in IREN’s AI data centers, including optical transceivers, AOC and DAC cables, fiber cabling, switch and NIC ASICs, and top-of-rack (TOR), leaf, and spine fabric switches. Reporting to the Technical Lead Director, Manufacturing and Quality, this senior individual-contributor role qualifies suppliers, sets quality standards for mass production deployment, and serves as the senior escalation point for supplier-related optics, ASIC, and fabric failures. The role partners closely with Engineering, Technical Sourcing, Supply Chain Operations, Data Center Operations, and optics, silicon, and switch suppliers to deliver hardware that meets IREN’s cost, quality, and reliability targets at scale.
With 100% renewable energy, we build, own and operate our data centers and take pride in being at the forefront of sustainable solutions for the ever-evolving applications of high performance compute. We belive that human progress is invaluable, but it should be done in the right way - responsibly, sustainably and having a positive impact on the communities we operate in.
Job requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field; advanced degree preferred.
  • 7+ years of experience preferred in supplier quality, manufacturing quality, or product quality for optics, networking silicon, switches, or data center network hardware, ideally at a hyperscaler, cloud provider, or AI infrastructure company.
  • Knowledge of network hardware technologies (optical transceivers and AOC/DAC cables, switch and NIC ASICs, SerDes and high-speed interconnects, TOR, leaf, and spine fabric switches, and routing, switching, and transport fundamentals).
  • Proven experience qualifying and managing optics, semiconductor, and switch suppliers and contract manufacturers, including supplier audits, PPAP or equivalent, First Article Inspection, and early technical and capability assessments of new-technology suppliers.
  • Working expertise with supplier test and inspection methods for optics and network hardware, including optical power, loss, and eye-margin testing, BER and link-level testing, ASIC and board-level functional test, and burn-in.
  • Hands-on experience driving supplier manufacturing operations, including reliability and quality requirements, incoming inspection, and acceptance criteria for optics, ASICs, and fabric switches.
  • Strong knowledge of quality methodologies (FACA/CAPA, 8D, SCAR, FMEA, SPC/Cpk, reliability testing), PLM-based BOM and change management, and data center spares planning.
  • Experience with Ethernet and InfiniBand fabrics, 400G/800G optics, and relevant standards (IEEE 802.3, OIF, MSA, OCP) preferred.
  • Strong problem solving, data analysis, and communication skills, with the ability to operate autonomously and drive root cause and corrective actions across cross-functional and supplier teams.

Job responsibilities
  • Own supplier quality strategy for IREN’s optics, ASIC, and network fabric hardware, from supplier qualification and NPI through volume production and sustaining.
  • Qualify new suppliers and contract manufacturers for optical transceivers, AOC/DAC and fiber cabling, switch and NIC ASICs, and TOR, leaf, and spine switches through audits, process capability reviews, and First Article Inspection.
  • Partner with Technical Sourcing to identify and assess suppliers with emerging optics, ASIC, and fabric technologies, evaluating their technical capability, quality maturity, and production readiness to accelerate program delivery.
  • Define supplier quality standards, test and inspection methods, and acceptance criteria for optics, ASIC, and fabric components, and drive continuous improvement with suppliers to meet quality targets.
  • Lead root cause analysis of optical link degradation, transceiver and cable failures, ASIC and board-level defects, and fabric switch failures during integration, cluster bring-up, and data center operation, owning the Major Issue List.
  • Drive supplier corrective and preventive actions (SCAR, 8D, FACA/CAPA) and SPC-based process control at suppliers to reduce defect rates and achieve quality and reliability goals.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to own optics, ASIC, and fabric hardware supply and ensure on-time delivery, cost, quality, and reliability targets are met.
  • Advance supplier and incoming test coverage, including optical power and eye-margin testing, BER and link-level testing, and ASIC functional test, to maximize network fabric reliability.
  • Conduct Source Inspections and supplier process audits, and maintain supplier quality documentation, BOMs, and engineering changes in PLM tools.
  • Establish supplier quality KPIs (incoming DPPM, FAI pass rate, link error and optics failure rates, field failure rate, SCAR closure) and supplier business review cadences, and report performance to leadership.
Other important requirements
  • Pre-employment screening, including background check and substance testing may be required according to company policies.
  • Must be able to reliably commute to the assigned office location on scheduled in-office days under the hybrid work arrangement.
  • This role requires willingness to travel domestically and internationally to supplier, manufacturing partner, integration, and data center sites.
  • IREN does not yet have an office in the Bay Area (a Santa Clara office is planned); until it opens, this role will work remotely, transitioning to hybrid on-site work once the office is established.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
