Let’s Build the Future of Learning
Join us to design and deliver AI-powered learning tools that scale across the world and unlock human potential.

About the Role

As a Senior Staff Site Reliability Engineer, you’ll define the technical vision and architecture for reliability across Quizlet’s platform. You’ll lead large-scale initiatives that ensure our systems remain fast, secure, and resilient — powering a platform that supports millions of learners worldwide. You’ll partner with leadership to shape the evolution of our infrastructure, mentor senior engineers, and embed reliability into everything we build.

This is an onsite position in our San Francisco office, requiring a minimum of three days per week onsite: Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

In this role, you will

  • Set the strategic direction for reliability engineering and infrastructure automation across Quizlet.
  • Architect self-healing, globally distributed systems that deliver 99.95%+ uptime.
  • Drive modernization of the infrastructure stack — advancing container orchestration, observability, and control-plane automation.
  • Lead cross-team initiatives to improve scalability, resilience, and security in partnership with product and AI platform teams.
  • Define and enforce reliability standards, SLO frameworks, and incident response practices.
  • Mentor senior engineers, fostering a culture of ownership and continuous improvement.

What you bring to the table

  • 10+ years of experience in SRE, infrastructure, or systems engineering, including 5+ years in leadership or staff-level roles.
  • Deep expertise in Kubernetes (GKE), Istio, Terraform, and CI/CD architectures.
  • Proven experience scaling systems and building resilient automation for global platforms.
  • Strong programming skills in Go and Python; capable of architecting automation frameworks.
  • Advanced understanding of observability stacks (Datadog, Jeli) and distributed system performance.
  • Track record of influencing technical direction across multiple teams and domains.
  • Passion for reliability, performance, and creating systems that “run themselves.”

Compensation, Benefits & Perks

  • Quizlet is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees. Salary transparency helps to mitigate unfair hiring practices when it comes to discrimination and pay gaps.
  • Total compensation for this role is market competitive, including a starting base salary of $258,000 – $314,000, depending on location and experience, as well as company stock options.
  • Collaborate with your manager and team to create a healthy work-life balance
  • 20 vacation days that we expect you to take!
  • Competitive health, dental, and vision insurance (100% employee and 75% dependent PPO, Dental, VSP Choice)
  • Employer-sponsored 401(k) plan with company match
  • Access to LinkedIn Learning and other resources to support professional growth
  • Paid Family Leave, FSA, HSA, Commuter benefits, and Wellness benefits
  • 40 hours of annual paid time off to participate in volunteer programs of choice

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
