The Role

We’re seeking a seasoned Senior Staff Product Designer to join our  team—focused on shaping the future of peer-to-peer and member-to-member payments at SoFi. This is an opportunity to lead high-impact, 0–1 product work that will power SoFi’s next generation of financial experiences.

You’ll partner closely with engineering, product, and research to bring innovative payment flows to life. As a technically-minded designer, you’ll thrive in the details—able to navigate system constraints, think across platforms, and push for solutions that balance clarity, scalability, and speed.

At this level, you’ll also have considerable responsibility to help grow and mature the design organization at large. This includes coordinating designers across product areas to align the larger SoFi ecosystem and acting as a mentor to various designers in the organization.

SoFi has achieved significant growth by setting ambitious goals. As those ambitions continue to grow, we must continue to invest in great talent. And that starts with you.

Responsibilities

  • Design product features from start to finish—from early concepts and technical explorations to polished, high-quality specs
  • Collaborate deeply with engineering partners to shape feasible, performant solutions and anticipate implementation challenges
  • Contribute to a strategic product vision for money movement—advancing SoFi’s ability to support faster, more flexible ways to pay and get paid
  • Lead with curiosity and clarity, using research, experimentation, and feedback to refine designs and uncover edge cases
  • Present and advocate for your designs across design, product, and executive reviews
  • Coordinate with other designers to drive alignment across shared surfaces and flows
  • Support the development of design best practices, tools, and processes to scale quality across the organization
  • Mentor and grow other designers through feedback, coaching, and collaboration

Qualifications & Experience

  • 12+ years of experience designing digital products across mobile and web
  • Strong visual craft, interaction design, and systems thinking across Android, iOS, and responsive web
  • Comfortable working with technical constraints and collaborating closely with engineers throughout the development cycle
  • Experience designing complex transactional flows or multi-step journeys, ideally in regulated or high-stakes spaces
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional work and deliver end-to-end design solutions with measurable outcomes
  • Excellent communication skills—you can explain design rationale to a range of stakeholders and guide teams toward clarity
  • Fluency in tools like Figma, FigJam, and Jira; familiarity with modern product development workflows (Agile, sprints, etc.)
  • A portfolio of work that demonstrates thoughtful, detail-oriented design across platforms

Even Better

  • Experience with payment flows or transaction-based design
  • Strong interest in systems-level thinking and how foundational capabilities scale across product areas
  • Experience designing for financial products or regulated industries

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
