The Role

SoFi is a next-generation financial services company and national bank focused on transforming personal finance through innovative technology. The Money team builds the core banking products — checking, savings, and debit/spend — that millions of consumers trust with their everyday financial lives.

We are seeking a Senior Staff Product Designer to help lead and elevate design for Money: an opinionated design lead who will set the direction for the product experience, prototype boldly using AI, and raise the bar for visual craft, communication, and stakeholder influence.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead the design lifecycle for complex, high-impact Money features: checking, savings, money movement, vaults across mobile and web.
  • Drive projects from ambiguous concepts to final launch, delivering experiences that earn the trust of millions of everyday consumers.
  • Help set the design direction for the Money team, proactively identifying experience gaps, challenging the status quo, and advocating clearly and confidently for quality even when it's uncomfortable.
  • Leverage AI-first prototyping to rapidly explore and validate design concepts using LLM-based tools (Claude, Gemini, GPT) and vibe coding environments (Cursor, Replit), compressing the distance between idea and testable prototype.
  • Partner with Product, Engineering, Data Science, and Research to shape the strategic roadmap; present design concepts compellingly to executive leadership, earning trust through a clear point of view and well-reasoned rationale.
  • Communicate design decisions with precision and passion through comprehensive specs, persuasive presentations, and the ability to make the "why" behind design choices land clearly at every level of the organization.
  • Bring exceptional visual design sensibility to every touchpoint, from core interaction patterns to polished, pixel-perfect executions that feel premium, clear, and trustworthy at consumer scale.
  • Act as a mentor and standard-bearer within the design organization, coordinating across product areas to align the larger SoFi ecosystem and helping to grow and mature the design culture.
  • Work with established design systems to ensure consistency and scalability while contributing to their evolution as Money products change and grow.
Qualifications
  • 12+ years of experience working in product design/UX roles.
  • Strong design point of view, craft, and aesthetics across all common platforms (Android, iOS, & Responsive Web).
  • Track record for design leadership.
  • Delivered many end-to-end solutions from initial concepts to measurable outcomes.
  • Strong collaboration & influence skills across cross-functional teams including research, product management, engineering, and marketing.
  • AI Prototyping Fluency: Hands-on experience using LLM tools (Claude, Gemini, GPT) and vibe coding environments (Cursor, Claude Code) to rapidly explore and pressure-test design concepts.
  • Ability to leverage user research, user needs, and product data to inform product definition and design solutions.
  • Ability to navigate and manage senior leadership, representing design perspective and advocating for user needs in the context of business and technology drivers.
  • Experience designing consumer financial products (banking, payments, or fintech) at scale — products actively used by millions of people.
  • Track record designing for trust and security in consumer-facing experiences, making complex or sensitive interactions feel safe, simple, and credible.
  • Strong expertise in modern design tools (Figma, Cursor or Claude Code, etc.).
  • Experience working in an Agile development environment using tools like Jira and Confluence.
  • A portfolio URL, slides or PDF to submit with application with examples of mobile and responsive web product design.
Even Better
  • Motion Design: Ability to use motion to guide users and create moments of delight in the UI.
  • Financial Literacy UX: Experience simplifying complex financial concepts in product UI, helping everyday consumers understand and act on their money.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
