About Mandrel

Mandrel is the modern finance & accounting partner for consumer brands. We pair experienced accountants with AI-powered software automation to deliver real-time, product-level financial clarity for brands with unmatched accuracy and effortless, audit-ready financials at every stage of growth.

We’re a team of experienced product leaders and engineers backed by top-tier investors like Asymmetric Capital Partners, Construct Capital, and Lux Capital. Join us in building solutions that provide seamless financial insights to consumer brands so they can make smarter decisions to grow faster more profitably.

About this role

We’re seeking a highly motivated Senior Software Engineer to join our growing team full time in person in New York. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will report directly to the Founder & CEO and will be responsible for working cross-functionally and directly with customers to improve and scale our MVP. This is a high-impact role where you will have an opportunity to make significant technical architecture decisions, iterate on prototypes, and build features from concept to launch in a highly autonomous environment.

You will:

  • Design, develop, test and deploy systems from concept to prototype that automate key inventory accounting workflows and transform the underlying data into real-time financial insights platform for our clients.
  • Contribute to a technical roadmap that leverages modern AI technologies, working with customers and the rest of the team to define product requirements and identify areas for improvement proactively
  • Build and refine AI-powered pipelines that extract, classify, and link unstructured data from supply chain documentation
  • Design and develop real-time data synchronization systems using GraphQL subscriptions, WebSockets, and PubSub that keep data instantly updated across all users
  • Architect multi-tenant enterprise features for procurement, inventory, and accounting automation with organization-level data isolation
  • Develop sophisticated integration layers connecting ecommerce platforms (Shopify, Amazon), warehouse platforms, financial software (Bill, QuickBooks), logistics providers, and client email inboxes
  • Build and optimize background processing systems for document analysis, data aggregation, and automated financial reconciliation workflows

You're a good fit if you:

  • Have 5+ years of full-stack industry experience building complex, data-intensive applications
  • Have experience building enterprise SaaS products from scratch, ideally in finance, accounting, supply chain, or B2B domains
  • Are proficient in our core stack: TypeScript, NestJS, GraphQL, Next.js, PostgreSQL, and Redis
  • Have experience with real-time systems (WebSockets, subscriptions, event-driven architectures)
  • Have worked intimately with AI/ML integrations (document processing, OCR, content extraction)
  • Understand multi-tenant architecture patterns and enterprise security requirements
  • Have experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Heroku) and containerization (Docker)
  • Are comfortable working with complex business domains and translating requirements into technical solutions
  • Are self-driven with a strong focus on product impact and customer experience in enterprise environments
  • Bonus: Experience with inventory management, document processing, financial, or general ledger systems

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
