MongoDB’s mission is to empower innovators to create, transform, and disrupt industries by unleashing the power of software and data. We enable organizations of all sizes to easily build, scale, and run modern applications by helping them modernize legacy workloads, embrace innovation, and unleash AI. Our industry-leading developer data platform, MongoDB Atlas, is the only globally distributed, multi-cloud database and is available in more than 115 regions across AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure. Atlas allows customers to build and run applications anywhere—on premises, or across cloud providers. With offices worldwide and over 175,000 new developers signing up to use MongoDB every month, it’s no wonder that leading organizations, like Samsung and Toyota, trust MongoDB to build next-generation, AI-powered applications.

As MongoDB's Cloud business grows, so does its reliance on the Cloud Provider Billing team. This team has the mission critical task of collecting all the data from the cloud providers and reporting the usage per customer to charge them. It's a constantly evolving technical challenge to meet the demanding needs of the business as our customer base expands rapidly across the globe. Our talented engineers are technically proficient, obsessed with code quality, rigorous about testing and correctness, and skilled at communicating with stakeholders representing many different personas within the company.

We are looking to speak to candidates who are based in Barcelona for our hybrid working model.

Here's a sampling of the teams’ responsibilities:

  • Ingest and aggregate detailed usage data from major cloud providers (AWS, Azure, and GCP)
  • Building ETL pipelines or equivalent big data pipelines
  • Improve the observability and quality of data going in and out of the system
  • Build and improve the backend systems to allow for a 10x load on the system
  • Continuously improve the customer experience
  • Integrate with internal business systems to support the sales, marketing, and accounting teams.

Position Expectations

  • Independently design and deliver projects
  • Participating in product and architectural discussions
  • Contribute to the codebase through projects and conducting code reviews
  • Question the status quo and lead with new technical solutions
  • Infrastructure knowledge, such as k8s, helm, and terraform etc…
  • Identify opportunities to continuously improve our systems, architecture, tools, and processes
  • Mentor other engineers
  • Foster an inclusive and respectful work environment according to MongoDB's core values

Qualifications

  • Experience building and maintaining large scale systems/ ETL pipelines. Billing systems experience is a plus
  • 5+ years of experience building mission critical distributed systems
  • Experience with distributed computing frameworks and service oriented architecture is a plus
  • Deep understanding of the JVM, and its ecosystem
  • Experience using non-relational (e.g., MongoDB) or relational databases at scale
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Equally comfortable communicating and collaborating with engineering leaders, technical experts, and non-technical stakeholders across business units

Success Measures

  • In three months, you'll be familiar with our developer tools and the existing features and projects on the team
  • In six months, you'll be contributing to our ongoing projects and helping plan our future work
  • In twelve months, you’ll be hitting your stride contributing to our roadmap and leading the team's key projects

To drive the personal growth and business impact of our employees, we’re committed to developing a supportive and enriching culture for everyone. From employee affinity groups, to fertility assistance and a generous parental leave policy, we value our employees’ wellbeing and want to support them along every step of their professional and personal journeys. What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
