About Nacelle:

Nacelle is revolutionizing eCommerce by combining cutting-edge AI technologies with unparalleled data integration to deliver personalized experiences for merchants. Our flagship product, Genesis, pulls data from various sources—product catalogs, brand voice documents, customer feedback, and marketing transcripts—to create deep context for AI models, generating highly relevant, real-time outputs.

The role:

We are looking for a Senior Generalist Engineer who excels at Python programming, data integration, and working with modern AI/ML tools like OpenAI’s GPT and Anthropic models. In this role, you will be instrumental in ensuring that Nacelle’s secret sauce—our ability to pull in data from multiple sources to create rich, context-driven AI outputs—comes to life. We are looking for engineers to join our team who are curious by nature, practice continuous learning, are passionate about designing exceptional solutions, and who enjoy working with talented people.

Key responsibilities:

  • Data Integration: Design, develop, and maintain data pipelines that pull in data from various sources, including product catalogs, brand voice documents, customer feedback, and marketing transcripts.
  • AI Model Integration: Leverage APIs from OpenAI, Anthropic, or other LLM providers to integrate pre-trained models into Nacelle’s backend systems.
  • Backend Development: Write scalable, maintainable Python code to support Nacelle’s AI-driven personalization features. Ensure robust handling of large-scale data ingestion, transformation, and retrieval.
  • Data Warehousing: Implement and manage data warehouses (e.g., Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery) to efficiently store, query, and manage large datasets across our platform.
  • API Development: Design APIs that deliver real-time, context-rich data to AI models, ensuring optimal performance and response times.
  • TDD: Follow Test-Driven Development (TDD) practices to ensure high-quality, maintainable code.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with product managers, front-end engineers, and AI/ML specialists to create seamless and intuitive experiences for merchants.

Requirements:

  • 6+ years of experience as a software engineer with a strong focus on Python and backend development.
  • Expertise in data engineering: Experience building and maintaining ETL pipelines and integrating multiple data sources into AI models.
  • Experience with AI/ML tools: Familiarity with OpenAI, Anthropic, or similar API-driven AI models. Ability to integrate pre-trained models into production environments.
  • Data Warehousing Expertise: Experience working with data warehouses like Snowflake, Redshift, or BigQuery.
  • Strong understanding of modern development practices, including Test-Driven Development (TDD), design patterns (e.g., Dependency Injection), and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS) and containerization tools (Kubernetes).
  • Nice to have: Experience with JavaScript, as some of the codebase involves JS.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Benefits & Perks:

  • Competitive compensation packages
  • Flexible, remote-first work environment.
  • The opportunity to work at the intersection of AI, data, and eCommerce, helping shape the future of personalized online experiences.
  • Stock options
  • Robust benefits packages which include medical, dental, vision, HSA/FSA, as well as employer-paid life insurance, and short/long-term disability
  • 401(k) with an employer match
  • Unlimited Mental Health Teledoc appointments
  • Paid parental leave
  • Unlimited PTO in addition to paid holidays and sick days
  • Monthly wifi stipend
  • Home office setup budget

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
