At Workiva, we prioritize a customer-first philosophy in everything we do. As a Senior Software Engineer on our Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team, you'll be designing and coding innovative solutions that elevate our solutions' reliability and performance.
While this role sits within the SRE team, we’re specifically looking for a traditional software engineer with strong application development experience. You’ll complement our existing SRE expertise by bringing a product-engineering lens to reliability challenges—especially in areas like user-facing tooling, browser telemetry, and internal UX.
You’ll join a team focused on empowering developers across the organization. Instead of managing tickets, our SRE team builds tools, frameworks, and systems that enable product teams to own their services in production—making the right choice the easy choice.
What You'll Do
Communicate across technical and non-technical stakeholders, helping drive adoption of reliability tooling and practices
Create solutions and guidance for improved reliability by collaborating directly with engineering teams, focusing on actual pain points
Build internal tooling to empower teams to monitor and improve the reliability of user experiences, services, and data workflows
Lead design and development of observability and resiliency features using modern frontend and backend technologies
Contribute to Workiva’s infrastructure through automation, telemetry, and architectural improvements
Participate in on-call rotations (with strong tooling support) to ensure production systems are operating effectively
Our Tech Stack
Frontend: TypeScript, React, microfrontends and legacy Dart
Backend & Infrastructure: Go, Python, Java; Kubernetes on AWS
Data: Kafka, Snowflake, MySQL, PostgreSQL
Observability: OpenTelemetry libraries and Opentelemetry collector

How We Work
Favor written documentation — so we don't forget what we've done
Willing to try new things and commit to trial periods
Small, steady improvements > risky overhauls
Encourage healthy, constructive feedback
Empathic to the rest of the organization
What You'll Need
Required Qualifications
Undergraduate Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in a related field
4+ years of experience in software engineering, site reliability, or other relevant experience
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with technologies similar to our current technical environment
Experience with UI developments (Typescript, React, microfrontends, etc), specifically browser telemetry or user experience reliability
Experience with chaos testing, load testing or any other kind of production testing
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Self-motivated with a strong propensity for action, results and continuous improvement
Ability to thrive in high-energy, fast paced, rapidly changing environments
Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to multitask and manage multiple processes, programs, and procedures simultaneously while working under pressure to meet deadlines
