Who We Are

We exist to unlock human potential.
Too often, AI drains it—drains budgets, drains energy resources, drains ownership of data. OpenTeams was founded to change that. We build AI that empowers. Our models are energy-efficient, cost-effective, and fully yours.

Our ethos is open source. That means freedom, trust, and accountability are built into every line of code. We reinvest 3% of our profits back into the open-source community, because we believe tech is most powerful when it serves everyone.
At our core, we value freedom, teamwork, accountability, and uncompromising quality. If you want to fight Goliath, and shape tools that set people free, OpenTeams is the place to do it.

Job Title: Senior Software Engineer - Python

Location: Remote (U.S. Preferred)

Work Authorization: Must be authorized to work in the United States

About the Role

We're looking for an experienced Senior Software Engineer - Python who is passionate about building robust, scalable platforms that integrate complex machine learning tools into unified frameworks. In this role, you'll guide the technical development of integration systems that combine specialized AI/ML tools into cohesive platforms with clean APIs and intuitive user interfaces.

This role is perfect for engineers who thrive on solving complex integration challenges in dynamic environments and have proven experience building AI/ML platforms and APIs. You'll create systems that seamlessly connect disparate AI/ML tools with intuitive interfaces, working collaboratively in a team that values knowledge sharing and problem-solving together.

What You'll Do

  • Join our team in the design, development, and architecture of a unified ML platform, ensuring seamless integration across several specialized tools for computer vision model evaluation
  • Build and maintain robust Python APIs that enable efficient testing and evaluation of object detection and image classification models
  • Develop and enhance user interfaces to provide intuitive workflows for dataset analysis and model performance assessment
  • Collaborate closely with data scientists, ML engineers, and external product teams to translate complex evaluation requirements into scalable technical solutions
  • Provide technical mentorship and code review guidance to other engineers, fostering best practices in API design and platform integration
  • Establish and maintain clear documentation for APIs, integration patterns, and platform architecture to support team knowledge sharing
  • Optimize performance across integrated tools and design scalable solutions for growing datasets and model complexity

What We're Looking For

We encourage you to apply even if you don't meet every qualification listed. We value diverse perspectives and unconventional backgrounds.

  • Proven experience building and deploying software platforms with complex integrations, preferably in ML or data science environments
  • Strong Python skills including experience with API frameworks (we'll support your continued growth in areas you want to develop)
  • High level knowledge of computer vision and understanding of object detection and image classification model evaluation methodologies
  • Proven ownership of high-impact integration platforms or tools, with deep understanding of system architecture and performance optimization
  • Experience integrating multiple third-party tools and managing complex dependency chains while maintaining system stability
  • Demonstrated experience or potential for leadership, especially in guiding architecture decisions and mentoring other engineers on best practices
  • Excellent problem-solving skills for debugging complex issues across multiple integrated systems
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams including data scientists, ML researchers, and external development teams

Bonus Points

(Not required, but nice to have)

  • Currently hold or able to maintain a DoD Secret clearance or higher
  • Exposure to full motion video techniques (e.g. object tracking)
  • Experience with cloud-native infrastructure (containerization, infrastructure-as-code)
  • Experience deploying complex software applications in IL-4, IL-5, and higher
  • Experience participating in security A&A processes, hardening systems, and remediating vulnerabilities
  • Familiarity with standards and processes such as RMF, NIST 800-53, NIST 800-171, FedRAMP
  • Frontend development experience (any framework)
  • Experience building frameworks around Large Language Model (LLM) deployment and fine-tuning, Retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), Agentic AI systems or Model context protocol (MCP)
  • Previous experience contributing to open source projects and communities

What We Offer

  • Medical, Dental & Vision – 100% paid for employees, 75% for dependents
  • 401(k) Match – Up to 5% with full vesting after 2 years
  • Unlimited PTO – With a required minimum of 15 days off annually
  • Fully Remote Setup – Includes up to $3,000 equipment reimbursement
  • Continuous Education –  Includes up to $500 reimbursement
  • Disability & Life Insurance – 100% employer-paid
  • HSA & FSA Options – With monthly HSA contributions from OpenTeams

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
