We are looking for an experienced engineer with a background in DevOps to help evolve Pulumi’s cloud infrastructure and deployment automation. In this role, you will design, build, and maintain Pulumi’s internal and external cloud services, helping ensure reliability, scalability, and security across multiple cloud platforms.

This role sits at the intersection of cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, GCP, Kubernetes) and infrastructure automation, empowering developers and organizations to manage their cloud infrastructure with Pulumi.

You will work closely with our engineering teams to enhance our internal platform, optimize CI/CD workflows and development processes, and provide feedback on the developer experience of Pulumi’s products.

At Pulumi, we also “dogfood” our own developer tools. This means you will regularly use Pulumi to manage and evolve our own infrastructure, helping improve both our internal platform and the experience of developers using Pulumi around the world.

Pulumi is built around a set of values that shape how we collaborate and build technology together:

  • We succeed as a team and support each other through challenges.
  • Inclusive environments help the best ideas rise to the top.
  • Our customers guide the decisions we make.
  • Openness and honesty help us move forward, even when conversations are difficult.
  • We value thoughtful action and focus on delivering meaningful results.
  • Curiosity keeps us learning and evolving with technology.
  • We aim to think big and help define the future of cloud engineering.

At Pulumi, you’ll be challenged, continue learning, share knowledge with others, and collaborate with a talented and supportive team.

While Pulumi is headquartered in Seattle, WA, we are dedicated to being a remote-first company. This role is open to candidates located remotely within the United States.

In This Role, You Will:
  • Design, build, and maintain scalable cloud infrastructure using Pulumi and other Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools.
  • Automate deployment processes for cloud services, ensuring high availability and performance.
  • Develop CI/CD pipelines to streamline software delivery and improve developer productivity.
  • Implement observability best practices, including logging, monitoring, and alerting for cloud services.
  • Optimize cloud costs and performance, ensuring efficient use of AWS, Azure, GCP, and Kubernetes.
  • Collaborate with engineers to improve infrastructure security, compliance, and operational resilience.
  • Engage with the Pulumi open-source community, sharing best practices and contributing to enhancements in infrastructure automation.
We’re Looking For Someone With:
  • Experience in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) with Pulumi or Terraform
  • Strong application development skills in languages like Go, or TypeScript.
  • Expertise in Kubernetes, Docker, and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Deep knowledge of CI/CD systems such as GitHub Actions or GitLab CI.
  • Understanding of observability tools (Cloudwatch, Honeycomb, Sentry).
  • Experience with security best practices, including identity management, encryption, and policy enforcement.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with a focus on operational excellence and reliability.
  • Passion for developer experience, infrastructure automation, and improving cloud workflows.
  • Leverages AI-assisted development tools to improve engineering productivity, automate operational workflows, and enhance infrastructure reliability.
Compensation:
  • Base Salary Hiring Range: $160,000 - $209,000
  • All full-time employee offers at Pulumi include base salary, bonus or variable, equity and benefits (details below).

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
