Kensho is S&P Global's hub for AI innovation and transformation. With expertise in Machine Learning and data discovery, we develop and deploy novel solutions for S&P Global and its customers worldwide. Our solutions help businesses harness the power of data and Artificial Intelligence to innovate and drive progress. Kensho's solutions and research focus on speech recognition, entity linking, document extraction, automated database linking, text classification, natural language processing, and more.
At Kensho, we hire talented people and give them the autonomy and support needed to build amazing technology and products. To do this, we look for people who insist on a bias towards action to minimize unhelpful hierarchy and process. We collaborate using our teammates' diverse perspectives to solve hard problems. Our communication with one another is open, honest, and efficient. We dedicate time and resources to explore new ideas and, as a result, we produce technology that is scalable, robust, and useful.
As an Infrastructure Engineer at Kensho, you will be responsible for building systems and frameworks that will be used by teams across the organization. You will be working on a team with experienced engineers and have an opportunity to learn and grow. As an engineer on the Infrastructure team you have the opportunity to work on the core platform that hosts all our assets, as well as to build monitoring & alerting that identify the health of such services.
At Kensho, we believe in flexibility-first, and give our employees the opportunity to work from where they feel most productive and engaged (must be in the United States). We also value in-person collaboration, so there may be times when travel to one of our Kensho hubs (e.g., Cambridge, MA or NYC) will be required for team meetings or company events.
Kensho states that the anticipated base salary range for the position is 150k-225k. In addition, this role is eligible for an annual incentive bonus and equity plans. At Kensho, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
What You'll Do:
  • Design core, backend software components that powers the Kensho language models and other products
  • Build tools to empower the engineering teams
  • Code using primarily python, jsonnet, and other languages
  • Collaborate with other teams to gather requirements and support their workflows
  • Conduct architecture, design, and code reviews
  • Analyze and improve efficiency, scalability, and stability of various system resources

What We Look For:
  • 5-year of relevant work experience in software development
  • Professional coding experience and fluency in any 2 of Python, C++, Rust, or Go
  • Experience architecting and developing large scale distributed systems
  • Experience designing and deploying solutions to major cloud providers such as AWS, GCP, and Azure, with solid understanding of CI/CD practices
  • Experience in concurrency, multithreading and synchronization
  • Familiarity with the Unix/Linux environments

How to Really Get Our Attention:
  • Your github account showing practical, entrepreneurial initiative
  • You have experience building distributed systems or have collaborated on a team developing internal tools
  • You have experience building systems processing large amounts of data
  • You have experience productionizing large machine learning models (LLMs)
  • You have experience in MLOps

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
