About Us:

Grow Therapy is on a mission to serve as the trusted partner for therapists growing their practice, and patients accessing high-quality care. Powered by technology, we are a three-sided marketplace that empowers providers, augments insurance payors, and serves patients. Following the mass increase in depression and anxiety, the need for accessibility is more important than ever. To make our vision for mental healthcare a reality, we’re building a team of entrepreneurs and mission-driven go-getters. Since launching in February 2021, we’ve empowered more than ten thousand therapists and hundreds of thousands of clients across the country and insurance landscape. We’ve raised more than $178mm of funding from Sequoia Capital, Transformation Capital, TCV, SignalFire, and others.

The Opportunity:

We’re hiring a Senior Software Engineer II to play a key role in improving the reliability, scalability, and personalization of Grow’s marketplace experience. This engineer will help shape the technical vision of the Marketplace Experience team while taking end-to-end ownership of how clients are matched with providers across our platform.

In this role, you’ll work across backend services, data pipelines, and experimentation infrastructure to ensure our marketplace is observable, resilient, and continuously improving. You’ll join a high-impact team responsible for some of Grow’s most business-critical systems. This role sits at the intersection of product, data, and engineering and is ideal for someone who enjoys operating in ambiguous problem spaces, driving clarity in complex systems, and contributing to long-term technical direction while still shipping meaningful improvements.

Why the Role Matters

Grow’s marketplace is the backbone of how clients access care. As the business scales, the marketplace must evolve from a collection of incrementally improved systems into a well-designed, reliable, and extensible platform that supports personalization, experimentation, and rapid iteration.

This role is critical to that evolution. By owning marketplace systems end to end and helping shape technical direction, this engineer ensures that improvements to matching, personalization, and discovery are built on a foundation that is scalable, observable, and resilient. Their work directly impacts client outcomes, provider success, and Grow’s ability to grow efficiently so we can continue on our goal of expanding access to high-quality mental healthcare for millions of Americans.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Own core marketplace systems end to end, including backend services, data inputs, and experimentation infrastructure
  • Improve the reliability, performance, and observability of the marketplace surface area
  • Build and evolve personalized marketplace experiences, including matching, search, and recommendation capabilities
  • Partner closely with Product and Data Science to translate marketplace goals into technical designs and execution plans
  • Diagnose and resolve data quality, performance, and correctness issues across systems
  • Enable safe, repeatable experimentation through robust A/B testing and analysis workflows
  • Use data deeply to instrument marketplace systems, measure impact, and continuously optimize marketplace performance and provider-client matching success

You’ll Be a Good Fit If:

  • 8+ years of professional software engineering experience with meaningful ownership of production systems
  • Strong backend engineering experience (Python preferred), including service design and data modeling
  • Experience building or operating systems where reliability, data quality, and performance are critical
  • Highly data-driven mindset, comfortable with experimentation, measurement, and optimization both from a product and technical perspective
  • Proven ability to operate in ambiguous problem spaces and bring structure and clarity
  • Product-minded approach with an understanding of how technical decisions impact user experience and business outcomes
  • Ability to collaborate closely with cross-functional partners, including Product and Data Science
  • A bias toward ownership, speed, learning, and continuous improvement

Role Details:

  • Employment Type: Full Time, Exempt (or Non-Exempt)
  • Base Compensation: The base compensation range for this position is $200,000–$250,000 USD Annually.

This is a hybrid role with the expectation to work onsite from our NYC, San Francisco, or Seattle hub location three days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday) and travel 2–3 times per year (e.g., company and department offsites).
The base compensation for this role will vary depending on several factors, including relevant experience, qualifications, and the candidate’s working location.

Full Time Employee Benefits:

  • Comprehensive Health Coverage: Medical, dental, and vision insurance, plus life and disability coverage.
  • Parental Leave & Family Support: Up to 18 weeks paid leave and a new child stipend.
  • Financial Wellness: 401(k) program and equity opportunities.
  • Meals & Home Office Support: Stipends for home office setup and ongoing funds for meals, with tailored perks for both remote and in-office employees.
  • Time Off to Recharge: Flexible PTO, 12 paid holidays, and a full winter break week.
  • Wellness & Development: Annual stipends to put towards personal & professional growth.
  • Mental & Physical Health Support: No-cost access to therapy through the Grow platform, weekly flexible hours for self-care (“Mental Health Mornings/Afternoons”) and memberships to leading wellness apps (such as One Medical, Headspace, and Talkspace).
  • Extra Perks: Pet insurance discounts, commuter benefits, and global travel assistance.

Research shows that some groups hesitate to apply unless they meet every qualification. If you’re excited about this role but don’t check every box, we encourage you to apply. At Grow, we value diverse experiences, transferable skills, and the unique strengths each person brings.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
