REQUIREMENTS

As a Senior Software Engineer - Fullstack, you will work with our small but mighty development team to build and scale high quality financial products.

Some of what you will be doing includes:

  • Delivering high quality code for features on the product roadmap, using our current stack (Typescript, ReactJS, AWS) or bringing in new languages/frameworks that fit our needs.
  • Architecting efficient solutions that follow best practices for secure web products
  • Partnering with product managers, designers, and other engineers to translate product requirements into technical implementation plans
  • Leveling up the quality of existing codebases by identifying and breaking down risks or areas of technical debt

The skills required for this role -

  • 5+ years of experience building web products, with experience in multiple modern programming languages and frameworks (such as Typescript, Go, Python)
  • You are comfortable contributing across multiple areas of the development stack, although you may have a preference or specialty in frontend or backend
  • You have experience working directly with cloud infrastructure and services, such as Google Cloud and/or AWS (today we use Lambdas, DynamoDB, EventBridge, Redshift, but we’re continuously evolving)
  • You have a strong understanding of API protocols and best practices
  • You have experience being a senior member of a team, designing new patterns, breaking down complex requirements, and leading others to accomplish a goal.
  • You get excited working with complex and secure architectures (distributed, stateless)
  • You enjoy experimentation, including working with urgency, using data to make decisions, and iterating to continuously improve.
  • You’re a strong communicator and collaborator who knows how to connect the dots between departments and stakeholders.
  • You have experience working on an Agile scrum team with Atlassian products (Jira, Confluence, etc).
  • You love mentoring junior developers into world class senior devs

Bonus points -

  • You have experience working with an event driven architecture
  • You have built and maintained GraphQL APIs
  • You have experience building mobile applications
  • You have built products at scale in a SaaS, Payments, or FinTech industry

BENEFITS

As a valuable member of North One’s team, you’ll get:

  • Family coverage of top-tier health/dental benefits: Get the right coverage for what matters most.
  • Remote-first work: You decide where you work. You can work from home, visit one of our in-person hubs, or work while you travel.
  • Professional development budget: Enjoy an annual budget to deepen your expertise
  • Unlimited paid time off: We measure success around outcomes, not hours worked.
  • Powerful gear: We’ll make sure you have the right tech to do your best work.

Few people have been trained for this sort of role, and research shows that women and people from underrepresented groups are less likely to apply if they haven’t satisfied every requirement. If you are this close to what we’ve described, but aren’t sure, apply. Let’s figure out together if this is where you could shine.
North One is proud to be an equal-opportunity employer and celebrates diversity. We welcome all applicants regardless of race, color, gender, age, religion, sexual orientation, disability status or national origin.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
