AndrenaM is seeking a Senior Software Engineer, Full Stack who is passionate about advancing autonomy and real-time maritime communication technology. We’re looking for a talented and motivated Senior Software Engineer to join us at our office in Hawthorne, CA. We highly prefer this person to work onsite but we may be open to a hybrid arrangement for the right candidate. This is a unique opportunity to be a core part of our founding team, shaping the product and technology from the ground up.

Our main engineering challenge is to develop a real-time data platform that can ingest, process, store, and analyze data from thousands of autonomous and semi-autonomous marine systems. This system must seamlessly handle a wide variety of sensors, hardware interfaces, data sources, and AI-driven analytics, all with military-grade security and robustness.

In this role

  • You will set a new standard for software in maritime autonomous systems.

  • You will tackle diverse engineering challenges, with the opportunity to shape your role over time as an individual contributor.

  • You will work alongside top engineers in software, hardware, and autonomy, contributing to cutting-edge defense technology.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with hardware and software teams to develop features across the stack, from embedded systems deployed in the field to cloud-based data pipelines and user-facing interfaces.

  • Lead the development of reliable, scalable systems that support real-time data collection and analysis.

  • Drive technical decisions and contribute to the evolution of our software stack.

  • Actively seek feedback from users and stakeholders to continuously improve the user experience.

  • Provide mentorship and contribute to a collaborative team culture.

  • Become the go-to expert for all challenges encountered.

Basic Qualifications

  • BS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or related field.

  • 6+ years experience in full stack development.

  • Experience (or interest) in autonomous systems, defense tech, or related fields.

  • Proficiency in developing high-volume data pipelines, cloud infrastructure and edge processing.

  • Proficiency in Python, JavaScript, React, C/C++, etc.

  • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).

  • Experience working with embedded systems.

  • Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, and software design patterns.

  • Strong experience with database systems (SQL and NoSQL) and real-time data processing.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills with bias for action and the ability to work independently in a dynamic environment.

  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Knowledge of electronics or hardware-software systems.

  • Previous experience in a startup or fast-paced environment is highly desirable.

  • Developed, debugged and deployed software that has been used in real world applications and projects.

  • Thorough knowledge of computer architecture and networks.

  • Exceptional analytical skills and engineering fundamentals.

  • Collaborative and growth mindset.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
