About Found

The self-employed workforce is a rapidly growing, resilient, and colorful 60 million Americans. But self-employment comes with its own set of challenges: navigating taxes, accounting, bookkeeping, and business banking are just a few. That’s where we come in.

Found is building tools that give self-employed people the security and peace of mind that has historically only been possible at big corporations. We’re a business bank account that automates taxes and expense tracking because we believe small business owners should spend more time doing what they love and less time on their business finances.

We’re looking for kind, resourceful, and passionate people to join us in building the safety net for self-employment.

About This Role

We're hiring a Senior or Staff Software Engineer to work across our product teams. This is a high-impact, full-stack role where you’ll be shipping customer-facing features, raising the technical bar, and helping engineers around you grow.

You'll embed with product teams where the work is most important, partner closely with senior engineers and engineering managers, influence how we build across the organization and have ownership over outcomes.

What You'll DoShip product that drives business impact
  • Build and iterate on customer-facing features in our core product — banking, tax automation, and expense tracking — using Ruby on Rails, React, Redux, and TypeScript

  • Work across the stack: backend APIs, data modeling in MySQL and Spanner, and polished frontend experiences

  • Partner with product and design to go from idea to shipped feature quickly, with a high bar for quality

  • Own your work end-to-end — you'll be involved in scoping, building, reviewing, and monitoring

Improve how the team builds
  • Raise the technical bar through code review, architecture input, and honest, constructive feedback

  • Help establish patterns and conventions that make the codebase easier to work in over time

  • Identify and address reliability, performance, or scalability issues before they become incidents

  • Contribute to reducing tech debt in a way that's practical, not theoretical

Develop engineers around you
  • Act as a technical mentor and thought partner for senior engineers across teams

  • Collaborate closely with engineering managers on technical planning, scoping, and team health

  • Help engineers grow through pairing, code review, and design conversations

  • Model what great engineering looks like: clear thinking, clean code, and good judgment under ambiguity

To thrive in this role, you have:
  • 12+ years of full-stack engineering experience, with strong backend fundamentals

  • Production experience with Ruby on Rails or a comparable framework, and comfort in React/TypeScript on the frontend

  • Experience working with relational databases at scale (MySQL, Spanner, or similar)

  • A track record of working across multiple teams or functions, building relationships and get alignment

  • Strong communication skills: you can explain technical decisions clearly to engineers and non-engineers alike

  • High standards for code quality and a habit of leaving things better than you found them

You may also have:
  • Experience in FinTech, financial services, or products with complex compliance requirements

  • Background as a tech lead, architect, or informal team leader

  • Experience driving engineering-wide initiatives such as standards, migrations, platform improvements

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
