We are looking for an experienced Senior Software Engineer who specializes in optimizing MS SQL Server performance. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of SQL Server workload optimization, excellent skills in programming languages like C++, C#, and Java, and a proven track record in migrating massive workloads across databases. Experience in developing SQL Server engine components is a plus.
This role will be based in either our New York, NY or Los Angeles, CA or Aliso Viejo, CA office and has a hybrid (3 in-person days per week) work schedule.
- Programming Skills: Proficiency in one or more of the following languages: C++, C#, Java. Ability to write high-performance and maintainable code.
- Database Performance Optimization: Analyze, optimize, and enhance SQL Server workloads to ensure optimal performance and efficiency. Address complex performance issues and implement solutions to improve database responsiveness.
- Query Optimization: Utilize advanced techniques to optimize SQL queries, including index tuning, query plan analysis, and performance troubleshooting.
- MS SQL Server Internals: Leverage in-depth knowledge of MS SQL Server internals to understand and resolve performance bottlenecks and inefficiencies.
- Workload Migration: Lead and manage the migration of large-scale workloads across different databases or environments, ensuring data integrity and minimal downtime.
- Collaborative Development: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including developers, architects, and system administrators, to address performance issues and implement improvements.
- Database Workload Optimization: Optimize database workloads across hundreds of services and databases to ensure high performance and efficiency. Identify and address performance issues in a large-scale environment.
- Services Optimization: Design and implement changes to existing services or develop new microservices aimed at optimizing database workloads. Ensure that these modifications contribute to improved performance, scalability, and reliability of the overall system.
- Data Management Solutions: Design and develop data management solutions that will be applied across hundreds of services. Focus on improving performance, reducing costs, and increasing engineering agility.
- Framework Development: Develop frameworks and tools to identify performance bottlenecks and optimize SQL Server queries. Collaborate with multiple teams to implement and standardize best practices for performance enhancement.

The anticipated gross base pay range is below for this role. Actual compensation will vary depending on factors such as a candidate’s qualifications, skills, experience, and competencies. Base annual salary is one component of StubHub’s total compensation and competitive benefits package, which includes equity, 401(k), paid time off, paid parental leave, and comprehensive health benefits.
