Develop and implement software for Agtonomy's autonomous platform. Collaborate on system design, ensure production quality, and mentor junior developers.
About Us
At Agtonomy, we’re not just building tech—we’re transforming how vital industries get work done. Our Physical AI and fleet services turn heavy machinery into intelligent, autonomous systems that tackle the toughest challenges in agriculture, turf, and beyond. Partnering with industry-leading equipment manufacturers, we’re creating a future where labor shortages, environmental strain, and inefficiencies are relics of the past. Our team is a tight-knit group of bold thinkers—engineers, innovators, and industry experts—who thrive on turning audacious ideas into reality. If you want to shape the future of industries that matter, this is your shot.
About the Role
We are looking for expert software engineers to join our growing team. You will play a critical role in developing a cutting-edge autonomous platform deployed in the real world and building a distributed system that spans cloud, app, on-premise, and edge computing. You will be working on challenging projects that push the boundaries of what autonomous machines can do in the field. In this role, you’ll help contribute to various parts of the stack including calibration, configuration, state management, simulation, interfaces, platform and other various layers of a complex robotic system.
What you'll be doing
- Design and implement software components within Agtonomy’s on-vehicle and off-vehicle stack.
- Elevate production code quality by promoting best practices, conducting thorough code reviews, and mentoring junior developers.
- Proactively identify and address technical challenges to deliver high-performance, reliable full-stack solutions.
- Partner with other software engineers, hardware engineers and operations teams to translate loose-end product objectives into shippable solutions.
- Design innovative software tools to help accelerate developer velocity and provide visibility to internal systems
What you'll bring
- Deep expertise in and passion for designing and developing software systems for physical things.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in software engineering and a demonstrated ability to ship code on production systems.
- Highly proficient in modern C++.
- Experience with modern software development practices (Git, CI/CD, code review) and automated testing and validation methodologies.
- Passion for rigorous, modern, maintainable software.
- Broad understanding of modern software engineering principles
What makes you a strong fit
- You’ve built cloud-to-edge systems, ensuring seamless data flow between distributed components.
- Knowledge of robotics, automotive or embedded systems software development, including real-time constraints and hardware interfaces.
- Experience working with, developing, and deploying cloud services, databases, and web APIs.
- You’re passionate about sustainable agriculture and excited to see your code run on real systems in the field

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene
Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.
Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech
- Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
- Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
- Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
- Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
- Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
- Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
