About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Site Reliability Engineer to join our Site Reliability Engineering team at Taskrabbit and help improve the reliability, scalability, and operational maturity of our engineering platform.

The SRE team sits within Engineering and partners closely with Cloud Infrastructure, Developer Productivity, Security, Architecture, and application engineering teams to keep our production systems reliable, scalable, and resilient.

This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who enjoys solving complex production challenges, building automation, and improving how systems operate at scale. You'll work across applications and infrastructure to investigate reliability issues, strengthen observability and incident response, and build tools and practices that make our systems easier and safer to run.

At the Senior level, we expect you to independently own complex technical problems, collaborate effectively across teams, and help drive lasting improvements to production reliability.

What You'll Do
  • Improve production reliability. Partner with engineering teams to define and evolve SLIs, SLOs, error budgets, and availability, latency, and capacity targets. Identify reliability risks and implement improvements that make our production systems more resilient.
  • Strengthen observability and incident response. Improve telemetry, alerting, dashboards, and on-call practices. Reduce noisy or unactionable alerts and turn incident learnings into lasting improvements.
  • Investigate complex production issues. Troubleshoot problems spanning applications, infrastructure, data stores, networking, and deployment systems. Collaborate with engineering teams to identify root causes and implement durable solutions.
  • Reduce operational toil through automation. Build automation, self-service tooling, and operational capabilities that reduce manual effort, improve reliability, and make day-to-day operations more efficient.
  • Build AI-powered and agentic operational capabilities. Develop AI-assisted and agentic workflows for incident triage, investigation, runbook execution, alert analysis, and remediation. Explore opportunities for autonomous operations with appropriate safety controls and human oversight.
  • Collaborate on reliability improvements. Work with application engineering, Cloud Infrastructure, Developer Productivity, and other teams to improve system resilience, share operational learnings, and promote reliable engineering practices.
  • Participate in on-call and incident response. Serve in the SRE on-call rotation, supporting complex incidents and escalations from engineering teams. As application teams take greater ownership of their on-call rotations, help improve escalation practices, operational readiness, and shared reliability standards.

On-call expectations: As a member of the Taskrabbit engineering organization, you'll participate in both primary and secondary on-call rotations, typically serving one week in each rotation approximately every 12–13 weeks.

What We're Looking For
  • Strong Site Reliability Engineering background, with at least 3 years of experience in SRE or equivalent production reliability engineering roles, including hands-on ownership of production reliability and operational improvements.
  • Strong understanding of SRE principles and practices, including SLIs, SLOs, error budgets, toil reduction, incident management, and postmortems.
  • Proven production operations experience, including participation in on-call rotations, troubleshooting high-severity incidents, performing root-cause analysis, and driving corrective and preventive actions.
  • Hands-on experience building and improving observability using platforms such as Datadog, OpenTelemetry, or similar technologies, including metrics, logs, traces, alerting, and dashboards.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS and Kubernetes in production environments, ideally Amazon EKS.
  • Experience with infrastructure as code and deployment automation, using tools such as Terraform, GitOps, or ArgoCD.
  • Strong software engineering skills in languages such as TypeScript or Ruby or Python, with experience building automation or internal platform tooling.
  • Ability to independently own complex technical projects, make sound technical decisions, and collaborate across engineering teams to deliver reliable solutions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical issues, risks, and tradeoffs to engineering partners and stakeholders.
  •
Nice to Have
  • Experience with distributed systems and technologies such as Kafka, Redis, or MySQL/RDS.
  • Experience with performance engineering, capacity planning, or cloud cost optimization.
  • Experience modernizing infrastructure or migrating production workloads.
  • Experience building AI-powered operational automation, incident-response agents, or engineering productivity tooling.
Compensation & Benefits:

At Taskrabbit, our approach to compensation is designed to be competitive, transparent, and equitable. Total compensation consists of base pay + bonus + benefits + perks. The base pay range for this position is $135,000 - $185,000. This range is representative of base pay only, and does not include any other total cash compensation amounts, such as company bonus or benefits. Final offer amounts may vary from the amounts listed above and will be determined by factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, qualifications, geography, and level.

You’ll love working here because:

  • The Perks. Taskrabbit offers our employees with employer-paid health insurance and a 401k match with immediate vesting for our US based employees. We offer all of our global employees generous and flexible time off with 2 company-wide closure weeks, Taskrabbit product stipends, wellness + productivity + education stipends, IKEA discounts, reproductive health support, and more. Benefits vary by country of employment.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
