Members can play, pause and resume watching as much as they want, anytime, anywhere, and can change their plans at any time.

Like our members, we love entertainment and are big believers in the power of the consumer's voice when it comes to delivering a best-in-class content experience.  The Content Consumer Insights team strives to bring that voice to as many business decisions as possible, working closely with business partners to inspire creative decision-making for our series and movies, and now Sports.  This requires an unparalleled level of insight into global audiences & fandoms, evolving content tastes, landscape & cultural trends, and what motivates “must-watch” entertainment moments.

We are looking for a seasoned consumer researcher who brings expertise on sports audiences and fandoms and can lead innovative research with global impact. This role will require big-picture thinking in a fast-paced environment, the ability to connect dots across domains (especially content and product experience), and comfort owning relationships with high-level executives within the company. This is an exciting opportunity to help build Netflix's sports insights infrastructure and strategy from the ground up!

In This Role, You Will:

  • Develop, lead, and execute an insights program that will build a strong understanding of consumer and fan needs in sports & sports entertainment today - in order to inform a variety of business decisions across programming, content development, communications strategy, and member experience.

  • Drive understanding of how Sports content complements and enhances our primary TV and movie programming, and identify opportunities for growth.

  • Own the partner relationship with Content & Marketing executives who focus on live sports, establishing a trusted, consultative partnership.

  • Develop innovative approaches & establish best practices for sports research.

  • Socialize your research and findings throughout the company, acting as the primary voice for sports insights.

  • Partner closely with other CI researchers (especially UX and regional), data scientists, analysts, and strategists to identify business needs and build holistic narratives to drive the business forward.

About You

  • At least 7+ years of hands-on, mixed-methods research experience.

  • A passionate fan of sports & entertainment!

  • A sports audience expert with a comprehensive understanding of the industry, including trends, audience & fan behaviors, and competitive landscape.

  • Experience in designing, planning, executing, and socializing research projects end-to-end.

  • An analytical mindset; you love digging into data for hidden connections and patterns, and know how to balance analytical rigor with pragmatism and actionability.

  • A phenomenal communicator; strong storytelling skills with experience turning data into insights and socializing across different departments (from content/creative to data scientist to high-level executive).

  • An excellent collaborator; able to build strong relationships both within your team and with business partners.

  • Independent thinker who likes taking initiative and approaches problem-solving with an innovative mindset; you focus on long-term solutions and making an impact at scale.

  • Comfortable with ambiguity and thinking through multiple perspectives; stays grounded in the face of change.

  • A master of prioritization and time management, both the big picture and in terms of your own time.

Experience with the following is a bonus, but not required

  • Entertainment research experience (e.g., TV, film, streaming, short form, gaming), particularly with other types of live or interactive programming.

  • International research experience.

  • Advanced degree in research, social sciences, statistics, or related field.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
