Arvinas is a biotechnology company dedicated to improving the lives of patients suffering from debilitating and life-threatening diseases through the discovery, development, and commercialization of therapies that degrade disease-causing proteins. Arvinas uses its proprietary PROTAC Discovery Engine platform to engineer PROteolysis TArgeting Chimeras, or PROTACs, that are designed to harness the body’s own natural protein disposal system to selectively and efficiently degrade and remove disease-causing proteins.

This differentiated approach has enabled Arvinas to build a broad pipeline of investigational therapies across oncology and neurodegenerative diseases, including ARV-102, targeting LRRK2 for neurodegenerative diseases; ARV-806, targeting KRAS G12D for mutated cancers, including pancreatic, colorectal, and non-small cell lung cancers; ARV-393, targeting BCL6 for relapsed/refractory non-Hodgkin Lymphoma; ARV-027, targeting the polyglutamine-expanded androgen receptor, or polyQ-AR, in skeletal muscle for spinal bulbar muscular atrophy; and vepdegestrant, targeting the estrogen receptor for patients with locally advanced or metastatic ER+/HER2- breast cancer.

Building on its leadership in targeted protein degradation, Arvinas achieved a major milestone in May 2026 with the first-ever U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval of a PROTAC protein degrader therapy. The approval marked a significant advancement for the field and demonstrated the therapeutic potential of targeted protein degradation as a novel treatment modality. This PROTAC has been out-licensed for commercialization and further development.

This role requires an ability to work and collaborate in a matrixed environment, with accountability to multiple different project teams within Neuroscience.   Core competencies in plate-based pharmacology, target validation via genomic and small molecule approaches, & plate-based data analysis & statistics, are essential for success in this role.  Equally important is an aptitude for leading the organization in novel technologic approaches that will impact the portfolio, combined with the potential to develop and train other scientists across the research organization.

This position will be located at our headquarters in New Haven, CT & requires regular, hands-on, in-lab experimental work.

Principal Responsibilities

Key responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Design and implement in vitro pharmacology readouts utilizing cellular biochemical, functional, and image-based endpoints. Modalities may include (but not limited to) ELISA/MSD, quantitative WB, HCI, & bioluminescence-based assay formats.
  • The incumbent will provide technical and scientific leadership in the area of immuno-histochemical endpoints in CNS and other tissues and be a core contributor in a collaborative HCI working group focused on best practices and robust solutions to assay design challenges in the imaging space.
  • Timely generation of data to support program decision making, and communication of results to team and senior leadership.
  • Set, maintain, and be an internal leader by example for high standards in data analysis and QC. Drive internal dialog around innovative ways to interrogate data.
  • Interface directly with the automated biology organization to identify automation-amendable assay strategies and drive the transfer of automation-ready assays.

Qualifications

  • As an assay designer and hands-on cell biologist, demonstrated ability to balance speed with rigor in a fast-paced, dynamic drug discovery environment.
  • Aptitude for systematic troubleshooting of biological assay systems
  • Energetic, positive leader by example, with the capacity & enthusiasm to grow into a leader of a small team of scientists.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
