Forbes Intelligence specializes in collecting and validating data to produce Forbes’ data driven lists and rankings—working with both internal stakeholders and external data partners to create authoritative, timely, and accurate lists that serve the audience of Forbes high net worth individuals, C-level executives, entrepreneurs and innovators. These lists also help listmakers understand how they compare to others in their industry, sector and regions.

This role on the Forbes Intelligence team will play a key role in shaping how Forbes sources, manages, and applies data across its lists. As part of a newly formed function, this role will help establish and refine the processes, frameworks, and standards that underpin Forbes’ list data operations.

The Forbes Intelligence Sr Research Analyst helps shape the development of Forbes lists by translating editorial methodologies into clear, defensible data strategies that both support current lists as well as create new initiatives. This role focuses on identifying, sourcing, validating, and managing data used in list production, while ensuring data rights, quality, and reusability across Forbes properties. The Sr Research Analyst is a data and research expert who closely partners with and helps to guide the Editorial & Accolades teams as well as internal stakeholders to ensure methodologies are executed efficiently, defensibly and at scale.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with and help guide Editorial and subject matter experts to understand list methodologies and determine data requirements
  • Evaluate existing Forbes data assets and data sources, identifying opportunities for reuse across lists and assessing tradeoffs and alignment with defined methodologies
  • Recommend and align on appropriate data sourcing approaches, including internal data, surveys, applications, or third-party providers, based on the needs of Editorial, Accolades, and downstream stakeholders to drive greater consistency and standardization across Forbes list methodologies
  • Evaluate data quality, sufficiency, and thresholds in partnership with Editorial and Accolades stakeholders to support defensible and repeatable list outcomes
  • Contribute to the development and evolution of Forbes’ centralized list database, building on existing data assets and workflows in partnership with Data, Product, and cross-functional stakeholders
  • Ensure data is properly permissioned and classified for use across Forbes lists and reports
  • Identify opportunities to standardize data sourcing approaches and improve consistency across list methodologies and workflows
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to keep list development on track and aligned with timelines and budgets

The Ideal Candidate

  • 4-6 years of experience in research, analytics, or data strategy
  • Strong experience working with structured datasets, surveys, or third-party research sources
  • Ability to evaluate and define data quality and align data to defined methodologies
  • Comfort working in a fast-moving, cross-functional environment, with the ability to collaborate effectively and communicate clearly across Editorial, Accolades, and internal stakeholder groups
  • Strong attention to detail, with the ability to work with complex rankings data and ensure accuracy, consistency, and alignment with defined methodologies
  • Experience operating in ambiguous or evolving environments
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to explain data decisions clearly to non-technical audiences
  • Experience with survey and data collection platforms (e.g., Typeform, Qualtrics, or similar tools), including the ability to leverage AI and Typeform integrations and evaluate survey design and outputs for data quality and alignment with methodology.
  • Ability to manage individual workstreams, prioritize across multiple list cycles, and operate effectively within structured project timelines
  • Preferred experience in shaping rankings, benchmarks, large research programs, or data-driven content initiatives.

The annual base salary range for this role is $90,000 - $100,000

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
