Turion Space is building spacecraft for national security and in-space operations — and the ground systems to support them. From debris removal to space domain awareness to building a more secure space economy, we are a team focused on getting real hardware and software to orbit, operate, and scale fast.
We’re seeking a Senior Remote Sensing Engineer with experience in Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR) systems to help us develop advanced missile warning and tracking capabilities using real-time space-based sensor data.
This role is deeply technical and focused on developing and deploying intelligent detection systems that operate in orbit. You’ll work across AI/ML, aerospace, and defense domains — contributing to some of the most critical early-warning technologies in space.
Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop and optimize missile detection and tracking algorithms using OPIR sensor data
Implement ML models for spatiotemporal inference on MWIR/LWIR imagery
Fuse multispectral sensor data to improve situational awareness and reduce false positives
Write and maintain core CV/AI pipelines in Python; implement performance-critical components in C++
Collaborate with systems engineers, mission analysts, and sensor teams to validate models
Analyze large-scale satellite datasets and build tools for annotation, training, and evaluation
Support integration of ML pipelines into onboard and ground systems
Contribute to proposal development, internal demos, and customer briefings as needed
Strong proficiency in Python, with working knowledge of C++
Demonstrated experience with OPIR, MWIR/LWIR, missile detection, or space-based sensing
Familiarity with frameworks like PyTorch, TensorFlow, OpenCV, ONNX, or similar
Experience working with large-scale satellite or sensor datasets
Active Secret Clearance
Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science, electrical engineering, physics, or related field
