About the Role

A1 is building a proactive AI chat app for everyday users to bring intelligence to conversations, errands, organising and workflows. Unlike traditional chat-based applications, our product focuses on achieving high reliability for long-running workflows, persistent context, and real-world task completion. The system must handle multi-step reasoning, interact with external tools, and remain reliable despite non-deterministic model behavior.

As Senior Recruiter, Machine Learning, you will lead hiring for machine learning and AI research functions globally. You will work closely with founders and technical leadership to identify exceptional ML engineers and researchers across applied AI, infrastructure, model training, evaluation, and systems.

This role requires deep understanding of technical talent quality, strong sourcing capability, and the ability to operate at high speed in highly competitive hiring markets.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Lead end-to-end hiring for machine learning and AI-related roles globally

  • Source and engage high-caliber ML engineers and researchers across global talent markets

  • Partner closely with founders and technical leaders on hiring strategy and talent calibration

  • Evaluate technical profiles across machine learning, distributed systems, training infrastructure, and AI applications

  • Build long-term pipelines across universities, research labs, startups, and leading technology companies

  • Drive hiring process quality, speed, and candidate experience

  • Continuously refine sourcing strategies and market intelligence across the AI landscape

What You'll Need
  • Proven experience recruiting machine learning, AI, or highly technical engineering talent

  • Strong understanding of the AI and ML talent landscape

  • Ability to assess technical depth and candidate quality beyond credentials and company brands

  • Strong sourcing, research, and talent mapping ability

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills

  • Comfortable working in fast-moving and highly competitive environments

  • High ownership, persistence, and execution ability

How We Work

The best products in the world are built by small, highly capable teams. We operate with high talent density, fast execution speed, and strong ownership. We care deeply about product quality, clear thinking, and practical execution.

This is a hands-on environment. Everyone is expected to contribute directly, operate independently, and make good decisions under ambiguity.

Interview Process

If there appears to be a fit, we will schedule up to 4 interviews.

Applications are reviewed directly by our team. Interviews are conducted virtually and/or onsite depending on location.

We value speed, clarity, and direct communication throughout the process.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
