About the Role

A1 is building a proactive AI chat app for everyday users to bring intelligence to conversations, errands, organising and workflows. Unlike traditional chat-based applications, our product focuses on achieving high reliability for long-running workflows, persistent context, and real-world task completion. The system must handle multi-step reasoning, interact with external tools, and remain reliable despite non-deterministic model behavior.

As Senior Recruiter, Applications Engineering, you will lead hiring across software engineering functions including backend, mobile, desktop, infrastructure, and product engineering. You will partner closely with founders and engineering leaders to identify and attract high-caliber talent globally.

This role requires strong judgment, speed, sourcing ability, and deep understanding of engineering talent quality beyond resumes and brand names.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Lead end-to-end hiring for applications engineering roles globally

  • Source and engage high-quality software engineering talent across multiple markets

  • Partner closely with hiring managers and founders on hiring strategy and talent calibration

  • Assess candidate quality through career progression, technical depth, and execution signals

  • Drive interview coordination, candidate management, and closing processes

  • Improve recruiting processes, candidate experience, and hiring quality

  • Build strong pipelines for backend, mobile, desktop, and product engineering talent

What You'll Need
  • Proven experience recruiting software engineering talent in technology companies

  • Strong sourcing and talent mapping capability across global markets

  • Good understanding of engineering roles, technical stacks, and organizational structures

  • Ability to identify high-quality talent beyond pedigree and company brands

  • Strong communication, stakeholder management, and candidate engagement ability

  • Comfortable operating in fast-moving and ambiguous environments

  • High ownership and strong execution ability

How We Work

The best products in the world are built by small, highly capable teams. We operate with high talent density, fast execution speed, and strong ownership. We care deeply about product quality, clear thinking, and practical execution.

This is a hands-on environment. Everyone is expected to contribute directly, operate independently, and make good decisions under ambiguity.

Interview Process

If there appears to be a fit, we will schedule up to 4 interviews.

Applications are reviewed directly by our team. Interviews are conducted virtually and/or onsite depending on location.

We value speed, clarity, and direct communication throughout the process.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
