Summary

As a Senior Quality Engineer, you will ensure Novanta’s products meet the highest quality and regulatory standards. You will lead and support quality engineering activities across design control, risk management, validation, and continuous improvement initiatives. Working cross‑functionally, you will help drive product quality, reliability, compliance, and customer satisfaction while providing technical guidance and expertise to engineers and key stakeholders.

About the team

Novanta’s Positioning Solutions team develops precision positioning, sensing, and control technologies used in mission‑critical medical, robotics, semiconductor, and industrial automation applications, enabling high accuracy, repeatability, and reliability in complex systems.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage quality engineering activities, including design control, risk management, and validation to ensure products meet regulatory and quality standards.

  • Develop, implement, and maintain quality management systems (QMS) and processes in compliance with applicable regulatory requirements.

  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to address quality issues and prevent recurrence.

  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to improve product quality and reliability, identifying and implementing process enhancements.

  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers and stakeholders on quality‑related matters.

  • Use metrics and data to monitor performance, inform decision‑making, and drive executional rigor and continuous improvement.

Required Experience, Education, Skills, Training, and Competencies

  • Educational background in Quality Engineering, Quality Assurance, or a related technical field.

  • Extensive experience in quality engineering or related roles, with consistent compliance to regulatory requirements.

  • Strong knowledge of quality management systems, regulatory standards, and statistical analysis.

  • Proven ability to conduct root cause analysis and implement effective corrective actions.

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across functions and influence outcomes.

  • Demonstrates a results‑driven, action‑oriented mindset, with strong prioritization, executional rigor, and sense of urgency.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to move around the production floor and access various workstations.

  • Manual dexterity to handle and use inspection tools and equipment.

  • Visual acuity to detect defects and perform detailed inspections.

  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods during inspections and reviews.

  • Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 25 pounds, including reaching, bending, and stooping as needed.

Travel Requirements

  • Occasional travel (approximately 10–20%) to supplier sites, customer locations, or other company facilities.

  • Travel may include day trips or multi‑day stays, depending on project needs.

  • Flexibility to adjust travel plans on short notice to address urgent quality issues or support critical projects.

Compensation and Benefits

  • The base pay range for this position is $95,000 to $140,000 per year, depending on geographic market and individual qualifications.

  • Depending on the position offered, annual bonuses and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of the total compensation package.
