Plasma is a purpose-built blockchain for stablecoin payments. Engineered from the ground up to address the unique needs of stablecoins, Plasma provides a scalable, efficient, and secure foundation for the next generation of money movement. We believe stablecoins can transform global finance and improve financial access worldwide. To reach the next level of adoption, dedicated and purpose-built infrastructure is required.

The Role

We are looking for a Senior Protocol Engineer to help design, build, and refine Plasma’s core protocol. You will be instrumental in advancing our consensus functionality, enhancing protocol security, and delivering high-performance features that meet the demands of a rapidly evolving blockchain landscape.

What You Will Do

  • Investigate, prototype, and optimize consensus improvements and other distributed systems components.

  • Conduct code reviews and provide technical guidance to ensure best practices in cryptography, testing, and documentation.

  • Identify and resolve critical scalability, latency, and reliability challenges in a decentralized environment.

  • Contribute to open-source initiatives that strengthen the Plasma ecosystem.

Who You Are
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in software engineering with a strong background in distributed systems or blockchain technology.

  • Proficiency in Rust and systems programming fundamentals.

  • Proven track record of delivering production-ready code for mission-critical applications.

  • Hands-on experience with consensus mechanisms, cryptography, or related areas of protocol engineering.

  • Comfortable working independently in a fast-paced, low-process environment.

  • Excellent communication skills, capable of translating complex technical issues to diverse stakeholders.

Nice to Have
  • Previous contributions to open-source projects in the blockchain or cryptography domains.

  • Familiarity with stablecoins, DeFi, or other crypto-focused use cases.

  • Experience with performance tuning, profiling, or stress-testing distributed networks.

Salary and Benefits

Benefits for full-time employees include an above-market salary, a generous ownership package, comprehensive insurance coverage, and generous paid time off.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
