About the role
Are you an expert project manager ready to lead critical initiatives that directly shape the success of a major financial services business? Hargreaves Lansdown (HL) are looking for a Senior Project Manager to own and deliver one high-complexity project or a couple medium-complexity projects within our strategic programme portfolio.The projects you manage will have significant influence on business performance and customer perception. You will drive transformative changes across processes, systems, and culture — navigating complex legal, regulatory, and operational challenges, while managing key supplier relationships and cross-functional dependencies.
What you’ll be doing
- Taking full ownership for the end-to-end delivery of one high-complexity project or up to two medium-complexity projects.
- Define, establish, and lead effective project governance models, engaging stakeholders up to senior leadership.
- Manage key contract deliveries, ensuring customers and suppliers meet plans while protecting HL’s commercial interests (typical contract value under £3m).
- Identify, capture, and coordinate complex interdependencies across the organisation critical to project success.
- Exercise full autonomy and authority to hold project teams and stakeholders accountable within your project domain.
- Demonstrate comprehensive understanding of Hargreaves Lansdown’s investment management processes.
- Expertly apply both Waterfall and Agile project management methodologies to deliver results.
- Leverage strong knowledge beyond project management, including business case development, customer experience strategy, product strategy, solution design, technical delivery, trials, operational and sales readiness, and customer communications.
- Exhibit solid commercial awareness, with the ability to map capabilities and outcomes to benefits and align with broader strategic goals.
- Independently initiate, scope, plan, and mobilise medium to high complexity projects, setting clear accountabilities, engaging teams, estimating costs and timelines, and managing risks effectively.
- Monitor and track project progress rigorously across time, cost, quality, and benefits to ensure delivery targets are met.
- Provide clear, persuasive progress reports to senior stakeholders, contributing to executive-level updates.
- Effectively manage relationships with both internal and external suppliers to ensure seamless delivery.
- Proactively identify, manage, and resolve issues and risks during project delivery, escalating only the most critical to senior management.
About you
- Ability to build and maintain trusted relationships with senior clients and suppliers, effectively managing expectations and influencing outcomes
- Lead planning and delivery of complex, high-impact projects, coordinating virtual teams across multiple workstreams
- Proactively identify, anticipate, and resolve issues and risks to ensure projects stay on track, even under tight deadlines
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence and negotiate at senior leadership (SLT) and executive levels
- Experienced in strategic programme planning, governance, and both agile and traditional delivery methodologies
- Deep understanding of business case development, client experience strategy, product strategy, solution design, operational and sales readiness
- Skilled in driving change and process improvements within regulated environments, ensuring compliance and commercial success
Interview process
The interview process for this role will consist of technical competency based questions and a presentation.
Working Schedule
The Senior Project Manager role is a Permanent, full time, 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Our office is based in Bristol, BS1 5HL. Hybrid working is available where only 2-3 days a week is required in the office.
Salary
The base salary for this role is circa £80k - £85k depending on experience.
