The Senior Project Manager for Design is accountable for the performance and results of large/complex design projects for Stanford Medicine Children’s Health under the general supervision of the Director for Design. Responsible for the execution of large capital improvement projects. This is inclusive of: developing a total project budget, owner’s schedule and work plan, facilitating User Meetings to achieve sign-off on all design elements (Architecture, SMEP, LV, IS Equipment, Art, Furniture, MEQ, Signage, Security), ensuring project completion on schedule and within fixed budget, and meeting all program objectives and appropriate government regulations. Acts as a liaison between the client/users and all other project participants including consultants, contractors, vendors, and outside jurisdictional agencies. Responsible for planning, scheduling, assigning, and overseeing the work of project participants and vendor consultants. Responsible for reporting project status updates, and generating/reporting project financials.

- Execute successful project delivery for large scale capital improvement projects ranging from $10M - $250M.
- As guided by project plan and business objectives, leads a large project team of professionals including: vendor contracting/negotiation, vendor performance, project cost, project risk and financial accountabilities.
- Documents and manages current state, future state and provides a gap analysis with recommendations for process improvement to hospital design standards.
- Manages the review and approval process to ensure appropriate approvals of all design work from schematic studies through final construction documents, and related field changes during construction, and approved changes.
- Executes operating policies and procedures, guidelines, and standards for their assigned projects. Identifies and recommends business, product, service and process improvements and may act as a department representative on committees and professional organizations.
- Implements quality control measures, such as Owner’s Reviews and Peer Reviews, to ensure project compliance with department, hospital, and university policies, government codes and regulations.
- Identifies barriers to the project and resolves complex technical problems, applying critical thinking to recommend standards and operating strategies that mitigate risk and propel growth.
- Manages communications on a regular and timely basis, ensuring that all project participants are informed of project status, problems, and required actions.
- Manages the selection process and contract negotiations for consultants, contractors, and vendors. Generate RFP and manage the RFP process to assemble a team of Subject Matter Experts (SME) required to assess existing conditions, make design recommendations for Owner Stakeholder approval, and document the project for AHJ and permit approval. For each vendor, define and contract the project scope and program, describing the objectives, physical requirements, parameters, and constraints of the project, including not only the user's functional needs but also hospital and external jurisdictional criteria for heal and safety, operation, maintenance, energy efficiency, quality standards, contextual issues, and aesthetics.
- Administers contracted terms and conditions with third party consultants, contractors, and vendors to ensure compliance with scope, schedule, cost and performance expectations throughout project design and construction phases.
- Monitors and enforces contract deliverables and obligations including review of invoices from third-party vendors and contractors for assigned projects; verify the accuracy of billed services, materials, and labor against approved contracts, purchase orders, work completed to date, and relevant project documentation. Identifies and investigates discrepancies or inaccuracies as needed prior to approval, escalating as appropriate to protect the Owner's interests.
- Generate and manage commitment and cashflow projections for internal and external expenses to the project. Inclusive of all third party consultants, contractors and vendors.
- Generate and manage risk log to bring transparency and awareness to issues that may impact project delivery.
- Reconcile all project finances at project completion in accordance to Hard Close / Soft Close requirements.
- Prepares and maintains accurate, coherent, timely, and auditable project records/files, and cost estimates following department standards .
- Builds consensus in leading projects and activities across stakeholder departments.
- Provide leadership, coordination, and support to the Project Managers/Construction Managers/ Project Engineers, vendors, and others supporting the project.
- Coordinate approved changes among the design team and project stakeholders.
- Ensure proper archiving of project records per departmental standards.
- Work to de-escalate project issues as they arise. Provide SBAR assessment and root cause analysis. Recommend process improvements where applicable. May provide occasional weekend coverage for projects in construction.
- May provide cross-functional project delivery support and participate in special initiatives or process improvements, as needed, consistent with the scope and level of the position.
- Performs other related duties as assigned in support of departmental, project and organizational objectives.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.
Education: Bachelor's degree in a work-related discipline/field from an accredited college or university.
Experience: Seven (7) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience
Licensure/Certification: None Required. PMP preferred.
KNOWLEDGE

- Thorough knowledge of design, goods and services, and construction contract types and delivery methods.
- Ability to interpret and apply and enforce contractual terms and conditions.
- Ability to plan, organize, motivate, mentor, direct and evaluate the work of others effectively.
- Ability to navigate shifting priorities, demands and timelines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Ability to prioritize work by making informed judgments and to develop solutions for complex problems.
- Ability to utilize project management software.
- Ability to execute projects utilizing Project Management Best Practices.
- Knowledge of CAD system, CAFM, estimating, cost control, scheduling, construction administration, quality control, specification writing, and space planning.
- Knowledge of local, state and federal regulatory requirements related to areas of functional responsibility.
- Knowledge of technical, professional and business in the fields of healthcare delivery, architecture, and construction, and building design process.

Compensation is based on the level and requirements of the role.
Salary within our ranges may also be determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, location, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
Typically, new team members join at the minimum to mid salary range.
Minimum to Midpoint Range (Hourly): $67.80 to $89.91
