Job Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Project Accountant to support our software development initiatives. This role will be responsible for tracking, analyzing, and reporting on the financial aspects of projects (with an emphasis on capitalized software), ensuring compliance with accounting standards and internal capitalization policies. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of project accounting, software capitalization rules (e.g., ASC 350-40), and cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

 Project Financial Management:

· Monitor and track costs associated with software development projects

· Collaborate with project managers, engineering, and IT to ensure accurate time and cost allocations.

· Maintain project budgets and forecasts, identifying variances and providing timely insights to key stakeholders.

Capitalization & Compliance:

· Apply GAAP and company policies to determine capitalization eligibility of software development projects.

· Ensure proper documentation and audit trails for capitalized costs.

· Assist in monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes related to capitalized software.

· Ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements related to capitalized software accounting.

Reporting & Analysis:

· Prepare detailed reports on capitalized software balances, amortization schedules, and project spend.

· Support internal and external audits with relevant documentation and analysis.

· Provide financial insights to support decision-making for ongoing and future software projects.

Process Improvement:

· Identify and implement process improvements to enhance accuracy and efficiency in project accounting.

· Support the development and maintenance of internal controls related to capitalized software.

Qualifications

· Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.

· 3+ years of accounting or finance experience

· Strong proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.

· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

· Detail-oriented with strong analytical abilities.

· Understanding of and ability to adhere to US GAAP

Preferred Skills and Attributes

· Experience working with Agile or other software development methodologies.

· Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., Oracle, SAP, NetSuite) and project management tools.

· Understanding of Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements and software capitalization rules

· Proactive, with a continuous improvement mindset

· CPA or progress toward CPA is a plus.
