PlayOn is the largest platform for high school sports in the US, reaching millions of fans, parents, coaches, and student athletes across NFHS Network, MaxPreps, and GoFan. Our products span live and on-demand video, scores and stats, recruiting, ticketing, and event management.

PlayOn is looking for a Senior Product Manager that will focus on our video experience: the live streams and on-demand content that sit at the center of how families connect with their kids’ games.

Over the past year, the video team has rebuilt the foundation - new player, new streaming infrastructure, new visual identity, and the results are showing up in the metrics. The hard part of digging out is done. Now the work shifts from stabilizing to pushing forward, and we’re looking for someone who wants to own that next chapter.

The Outcomes You’ll Deliver

· Own the video product end-to-end, including live streaming, player technology, camera integrations, video quality, and in-stream experience
· Lead and partner with a team of engineers to deliver high-quality, reliable video experiences
· Drive measurable business outcomes such as subscriber retention, viewer engagement, and streaming cost efficiency
· Make it easy and compelling for schools and producers to stream events on the platform
· Elevate the viewing experience to delight and retain subscribers
· Balance technical depth, business impact, and customer needs in product decisions
· Build strong credibility with engineering by going deep on streaming architecture and systems
· Develop clear, data-backed business cases and influence executive stakeholders
· Partner closely with marketing and growth teams to drive adoption and usage, not just feature delivery

In this role, you can expect to

  • Work closely with schools, producers, and partners to understand barriers to getting more events streamed on our platform, and build product solutions that lower those barriers across both automated and manual production workflows
  • Raise the bar on video quality for subscribers, from stream stability to startup time to the richness of the in-stream experience, and tie those improvements to measurable engagement and retention outcomes
  • Own video quality as a measurable discipline - define the bar, instrument it, and connect it to retention impact
  • Lead the roadmap for video capture, video platform, and in-stream experience initiatives
  • Build and defend business cases for new video investments, grounded in subscriber economics and cost-per-stream analysis
  • Partner with marketing and growth on go-to-market for every major video launch - adoption metrics are part of the plan from day one, not an afterthought
  • Prototype and pressure-test ideas before committing engineering cycles - you ship rough working versions, not just specs
  • Represent the video product in leadership conversations with fluency in both the technical and financial dimensions

To thrive in this role, you have

  • 5+ years in video, streaming, or media technology product roles
  • Deep familiarity with streaming infrastructure: HLS, encoding pipelines, CDN tradeoffs, player SDKs, latency optimization
  • Experience owning P&L-adjacent decisions or building business cases that directly influenced company strategy
  • Track record in subscription or consumer businesses where retention and activation are first-class metrics
  • Demonstrated ability to drive product adoption post-launch, partnering with marketing or growth teams on go-to-market
  • You build your own models and analyses. You don't wait for a data team to tell you what's working
  • Experience in environments where speed matters and perfect is the enemy of shipped
  • Comfortable using AI tools to accelerate your workflow - from building prototypes and running analyses to pressure-testing ideas - and willing to question whether traditional PM artifacts like PRDs are the best way to drive outcomes

How You Play

  • Ownership over Participation – You take responsibility for achieving holistic outcomes, prioritize key objectives, and adapt quickly when situations require a different approach. You follow through even against the toughest challenges.
  • Team over Stars – You are a bridge builder, establishing processes and relationships with teams outside your own. You work to rally around common goals, find win-win solutions, compromise when necessary, and help others succeed.
  • Growth over Comfort – You are driven by a desire to grow and actively seek opportunities to expand your comfort zone, skills, and confidence. You embrace new challenges with curiosity, accepting discomfort and failure as opportunities to learn.
  • Fairness over Popularity – You approach decisions with a scientist’s mindset, challenging your assumptions and remaining objective. You consider long-term impact rather than relying on short-term gains, proactively seek others’ perspectives, and manage emotions in decision-making.

PlayOn is where high school sports come to life. Through GoFan, NFHS Network, and MaxPreps, we give every fan a front-row seat to the moments that matter most: the buzzer-beaters, the comeback wins, the senior nights, the rivalries that define a town.

We built our technology for the people who live and breathe high school athletics — the parents who never miss a game, the alumni still cheering from across the country, the communities that show up week after week. From buying tickets to watching a live stream to reliving the highlights, we make it simple to stay close to the sports and the athletes you love most.

Backed by KKR, we build the technology that powers high school athletics from the inside out: Schools trust us to handle ticketing, streaming, fundraising, concessions, merchandise, and more so the people running programs can stay focused on the athletes and fans we all serve together.

We're a growth-stage company on a mission to make high school sports more accessible, more memorable, and more connected than ever before.

When being there means everything, we make sure you never miss a moment.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
