Summary of Role

This is a technical PM role on the Platform Product team. You’ll support our Data Products teams, which deliver device data, energy modeling, and insights to consumers, financial stakeholders, multiple product teams, operations, and customer support. We’re looking for a PM that has the technical depth and vision to reinforce the platform’s foundation and define how it will evolve. Scaling and refining device data is critical to Palmetto, so this is a great opportunity to have a high impact on the core business. You’ll join a tenured engineering team with deep energy data expertise and partner with stakeholders who are passionate about clean energy.

Strategic & Tactical Responsibilities

  • Deliver fresh, accurate, and useful data for hundreds of thousands of devices that power homes with clean energy.
  • Define what great looks like for your teams and raise the quality bar for our energy modeling, data visualization, and device monitoring products.
  • Develop a deep understanding of what our customers, businesses, and tech teams need and be their advocate.
  • Proactively communicate. This team’s services are essential to Palmetto. Make sure your stakeholders are heard and have clear expectations of what you’re delivering.
  • Efficiently manage your team with a bias for action. You’ll implement/run processes that help your team deliver quality at speed.
  • Lead prioritization and planning efforts. You’ll craft OKRs, a roadmap, and determine what your teams do (and don’t do).

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of product management experience, ideally on platform, data, or ML teams. Experience in engineering, data, or technical program management is welcome.
  • Best idea wins mentality - you foster debate and drive your team to focus on the most impactful outcomes.
  • Data fluency - quantitative rigor and logic are foundational to how you work. You regularly use SQL et al. to inform your decisions and measure success. You have built algorithm-based products.
  • Strong writing and communication skills - you write clear, persuasive PRDs and can influence senior stakeholders
  • Scalability & Performance Optimization - experience in identifying, measuring, and addressing performance bottlenecks in data systems and designing scalable platforms.
  • Growth mindset with a bias toward action, experimentation, and continuous improvement.

Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a background check.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
