About AppDirect

Become a digital, global citizen and enable the new generation of digital entrepreneurs around the world.  AppDirect offers a subscription commerce platform to sell any product, through any channel, on any device - as a service.  We power millions of subscriptions worldwide for organizations.  We do this by our values-driven culture—one that enables you to Be Seen, Be Yourself, and Do Your Best Work.

About You

You are an experienced product manager passionate about crafting exceptional customer experiences. With expertise in managing large-scale, customer-facing web products, particularly in marketplace, e-commerce, or SaaS settings, you excel in cross-functional collaboration and data-driven decision-making. You have a strong grasp of user-centric design, analytics, and identity management, leading to enhanced user engagement and retention. Your communication skills translate complex ideas into effective solutions, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment.

  • Own the billing platform roadmap, with a near-term focus on evolving AppDirect from subscription-based to consumption-based billing models.
  • Integrate token-based billing and token management capabilities into the AppDirect marketplace, working closely with the Devs.AI team on platform dependencies.
  • Drive automation of accounts receivable and payment reconciliation workflows, reducing manual intervention with measurable efficiency gains.
  • Build AI-assisted subscription management features, including right-sizing tools that guide users toward appropriate plans.
  • Benchmark AppDirect's billing platform against leading AI billing competitors and deliver a gap analysis with a prioritized roadmap within year one.
  • Partner with product design in Figma and engage directly with enterprise clients to clarify contract renewals, upgrades, and billing logic.
What we're looking for
  • 5–10 years of product management experience with a strong focus on billing, invoicing, payments, or subscription management.
  • Demonstrated experience shipping consumption-based or usage-based billing features, including familiarity with token usage, metering, and retirement concepts.
  • Hands-on experience with payment and money movement APIs such as Stripe, Adyen, or Plaid, including reviewing or producing API documentation.
  • Experience with enterprise billing or ERP platforms (e.g., Zuora, Chargebee, NetSuite, or Recurly) is an asset.
  • Familiarity with compliance frameworks such as PCI, SOC 2, or ISO 27001 in the context of a payments or billing product is an asset.
  • Clear, structured communication skills — because you will regularly translate complex billing and contract logic for enterprise clients, engineering teams, and cross-functional stakeholders who each need a different level of detail.
  • Comfort operating across multiple teams and technical dependencies simultaneously — because this role spans the core marketplace, the Dev's AI team, and finance workflows with no single-team ownership.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
