🎨 About the role

You will lead product design on several projects simultaneously. In this role, you will report to our Product Design Manager who has an extensive background in both product design and managing design teams.

We believe great design starts with listening to customers and not a predefined list of requirements. You’ll take an active role in shaping product strategy by consistently advocating for user needs. You’ll know, because you’ll be talking with them.

Good design is much more than how things look, it’s how they work. We encourage our engineering and growth teams to engage actively in product discussions. Your facilitation will be crucial in drawing out the best ideas from across our teams, fostering a culture of innovation, and navigating the trade-offs necessary to build the right products.

We expect a broad set of design capabilities. As a lead product designer you will:

  • Collaborate with the team on problem discovery and definition

  • Uncover and distill user needs / insights through customer interviews and product analytics

  • Design and prototype multiple ideas quickly, connecting regularly with users to validate them

  • Deliver balanced user experiences that are high quality, easy to use, and ship quickly

  • Have a strong point of view on how our product should look & feel

  • Lead and participate in user interviews, turning insights into actionable design decisions and sharing learnings to align the broader team.

  • Evaluate shipped work to ensure it solves our user needs and meets our goals

  • Continuously improve our design processes —shaping systems rather than just following them.

  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional partners, including product managers, engineers, and business stakeholders shaping product direction.

  • Actively give and receive feedback across teams, clearly presenting design rationale and aligning stakeholders on vision, goals, and user value.

👋 About you
  • An exceptional UI designer, and consider it a core skill within your broader product design capabilities.

  • 5+ years in product design roles

  • Experience working with remote teams as a design lead on large projects

  • Thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment typical of growing startups.

  • Get things done, are incredibly resourceful, and have an ownership mindset

  • Comfortable leading user research initiatives and talking to customers

  • Relentlessly iterate and simplify to find the right trade-offs help us ships sooner to users

  • Experience in designing data-based UIs & data visualizations is a plus

  • Communicate clearly, concisely, and proactively

  • Can deftly articulate rationale behind design decisions

  • Are humble, and give/take constructive feedback well

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
