Next League is looking for a Senior Product Designer who combines strong user experience, user interface, and visual design craft with the ability to operate in a client-facing professional services environment. You will work across discovery and delivery, partnering closely with Strategy, Product, Front End, and Engineering to translate product strategy into actionable designs and to ensure what is designed is what gets built.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following and other duties may be assigned as necessary:

  • Lead design work end-to-end across phases: problem framing, flows and information architecture, interaction design, prototyping, and high-fidelity UI
  • Translate product strategy and business goals into clear user experiences, interfaces, and visual design outcomes, working closely with Strategy to align on intent and success criteria
  • Collaborate directly with Front End developers and other engineers to ensure design feasibility, strong handoff, and implementation fidelity through build and QA
  • Design and ship experiences across multiple platforms, including responsive websites and native mobile apps (iOS, Android, and hybrid approaches), adapting patterns appropriately
  • Create wireframes, journey and flow diagrams, prototypes, and polished UI to communicate concepts and gather feedback
  • Present work to clients clearly, including rationale, tradeoffs, and recommendations; incorporate feedback without losing clarity, quality, or usability
  • Contribute to established design systems by extending and maintaining component libraries, patterns, documentation, and usage guidance to support consistent, efficient delivery
  • Apply practical usability principles rooted in human factors and human-computer interaction fundamentals to improve clarity, accessibility, error prevention, and overall usability
  • Plan and support user validation activities such as lightweight research, usability testing, and feedback synthesis to reduce risk and improve outcomes
  • Operate effectively within agile delivery by participating in planning, collaborating during implementation, and supporting design QA and iteration

Qualification Requirements

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Required qualifications

  • Must be located in Canada (Greater Toronto Area is preferred)
  • 6 to 8+ years of experience in product design, UX and UI, or digital product design, ideally in a professional services or agency environment
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating end-to-end UX and UI design, including interaction design, visual design, and shipped work
  • Advanced proficiency in Figma, including components, variants, prototyping, and working within design systems
  • Experience contributing to established design systems, including extending component libraries, documenting patterns, and maintaining consistency across products
  • Experience collaborating closely with Front End developers and engineers, including clear specs, handoff artifacts, and implementation support
  • Strong client-facing communication skills, including presenting work, explaining rationale, and navigating feedback and tradeoffs
  • Familiarity with user research and validation methods such as usability testing, interviews, surveys, and synthesis of findings into design decisions
  • Working knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG 2.x) and inclusive design principles
  • Solid understanding of front-end fundamentals (HTML, CSS, and basic JavaScript concepts) to support effective collaboration (not a coding role)
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, adapt to changing conditions, and deliver high-quality work in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with attention to detail and a high bar for craft

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience designing for sports-related products or experiences
  • Experience designing responsive content-driven websites in addition to native application product experiences
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite
  • Experience using AI-assisted tools to improve workflow efficiency in areas like synthesis, ideation, documentation, prototyping, design-to-dev collaboration, etc.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
